Michael Oher Conservatorship To End Amid ‘The Blind Side’ Lawsuit

One week after The Blind Side subject Michael Oher filed a lawsuit against Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy for placing him under a conservatorship rather than adopting him as he was allegedly led to believe, we have an interesting update. Sean and Leigh Anne are voluntarily ending Michael's conservatorship, a situation the couple calls "devastating."

Michael recently filed a lawsuit claiming the Tuohys had misled him in order to profit from his story.

Last week, news broke that Michael is suing the Tuohys, claiming they lied to him — rather than adopting him, they had actually had him sign paperwork that put him under a conservatorship that would allow them to make money from his story being shared in The Blind Side.

Since the filing, the Tuohys have maintained that they kept the conservatorship straightforward from the beginning, stating that it was put in place to allow them to "assist with Mr. Oher’s needs, ranging from getting him health insurance and obtaining a driver’s license to helping with college admissions."

Now, Leigh Anne and Sean are seeking to end Michael's conservatorship.

According to what their lawyer, Randall Fishman, told the Associated Press, Leigh Anne and Sean are entering into a consent order to end the conservatorship that is still in effect over Michael. The conservatorship was originally put into place in May 2004 when Michael was already 18 years old.

Michael said that he was "falsely advised" that they did it this way because he was already 18 but told that he should call the Tuohys "mom" and "dad."

The Tuohys say this has been a difficult time for them.

Their attorneys say that Michael and the Tuohys have been estranged for about 10 years, and lawyer Steve Farese said that over the years, Michael has become "more and more vocal and more and more threatening" toward them, which is "devastating" for them.

Michael shared a statement about the situation after filing his lawsuit.

In a statement shared with E! News via his lawyer last week, Michael said, "I am disheartened by the revelation shared in the lawsuit today. This is a difficult situation for my family and me. I want to ask everyone to please respect our privacy at this time. For now, I will let the lawsuit speak for itself and will offer no further comment."

A lot has changed since Michael's high school days.

Now 37 years old, the former NFL player is a married father of four, and there's no doubt he's been living his life separate of the Tuohys for a long time. Hopefully, ending the conservatorship will be a step in the right direction for everyone involved.
