Matt Lauer’s Daughter Romy Flees the Scene After Crashing Car Into Fence in the Hamptons

One celebrity kid landed in a bit of trouble during the summer, but the details of what happened have only been made public now. Over the fourth of July weekend, the daughter of former Today show anchor Matt Lauer, Romy Lauer, was involved in a hit-and-run accident in the Hamptons. After her car collided with a fence, she fled the scene, but it was easy enough to trace the accident back to her thanks to what she left behind.

The accident took place more than two months ago.

As Page Six reported, 20-year-old Romy was driving a Jeep Wrangler when she crashed into a fence and a sign. But according to what sources told the news outlet, though she fled the scene, Southampton Police were still able to identify that Romy was responsible because her license plate fell off and was left behind.

Romy has been issued a summons for leaving the scene of an accident.

A 911 call was made at 4 a.m. on the morning of July 5 after a neighbor heard a loud noise and was concerned, a source told Page Six. By the time police arrived, Romy was gone. Another source told the news site that a ticket was issued for the accident and that she already has attorney Edward Burke Jr. on deck to help her handle the situation.

Romy wasn't far from home when the accident occurred.

According to what a source told People, the accident was considered "minor" and there were no DUI charges made — her ticket was instead for leaving the scene. The insider also confirmed there will be a settlement made rather than a trial.

Romy is a student at the University of Miami.

Those who follow Romy on TikTok know that she has remained active on the platform since returning to school for the year, but even though she (obviously) isn't discussing the accident, she is still receiving comments from those wanting to know more about it.

In response to one person who urged her to get a "real" life, Romy replied, "My real life is college, I’m so happy my real life isn’t commenting on 20 year olds tik toks whom I know nothing about."

Matt hasn't commented on the situation publicly.

Seven years after Matt was fired from the Today show, he's continued to lay low since then, so it's no surprise that he hasn't made any official statements about Romy's recent run-in with the law.

Matt shares Romy with ex-wife Annette Roque, along with sons Thijs and Jack.
