What to Know
Ms. Rachel is known for being outspoken for the safety and rights of children, especially when it comes to international conflicts. But after she responded to the US’ strikes on Iran over the weekend with a simple but powerful three word statement, she ignited a political debate that evoked some surprisingly angry reactions from people online. Who knew that standing up for kids would be so controversial?
Ms. Rachel’s statement got right to the point.
The post that Rachel shared was a screenshot of her notes app where she had written, “Stop killing kids.”
“Can’t we all agree in this life not to kill children?” she continued in her caption, later adding, “I HAVE said the Iranian government needs to stop killing children, too — everyone, everywhere — stop killing, starving, bombing, taking kids hostage & violating children’s human rights. Give them school, give them medical care, give them safe, warm homes, give them everything they need to thrive.”
Some people cheered her on.
On Reddit, so many people proclaimed that this is exactly why they’re fans of the children’s YouTuber — even those who don’t actually have any kids of their own. Some even compared her to Mr. Rogers himself, which is obviously a huge compliment.
“What a sad time that speaking out against child murder is considered controversial,” one person wrote. “You are amazing, Ms. Rachel! You are amazing for standing up on the right side of history, regardless of how they try to bully you.”
Another added, “As a 40yo dude without kids or nieces/nephews, I had no idea who this woman was a year ago and now I’d take a bullet for her.”
Many others thought Rachel should keep her opinions to herself.
And still, some shared on X that they believed that if she was going to talk about not killing kids, she should speak out against abortion too. Sigh…
“The US is not targeting kids,” another person wrote. “It’s pathetic how many people don’t understand how the military/war works but still think their opinion is worth the breath.”
Whatever debate she may have inspired, it doesn’t seem like Rachel is willing to engage (and honestly, that’s probably for the best). Her comments are off on that post, and given the amount of hate she’s received for speaking out in support of Palestine over the last year, it’s no wonder she’d rather not read the comments.
