Prince George Is In Line To Be King, but He Reportedly Has Another Career in Mind First

Prince George is in line to take over the British throne one day, but the 11-year-old doesn’t necessarily have his eyes set on reigning as king just yet. In fact, his career desires may be a little unexpected for a royal, but they’re not at all beyond his reach. In 2023, the Daily Mail reported that George will not be required to serve in the armed forces before becoming king, which breaks a tradition that has been around for centuries.

Here's what he wants to be.

According to the Daily Mail, Prince George has his eyes set on being a chef. Desmond MacCarthy, owner of Norfolk’s Wiveton Hall Cafe, revealed that George mentioned his career aspirations during a visit with his mom, Kate Middleton.

When shown the cafe’s wood-fired pizza oven, George reportedly said, “That’s what I want to do when I grow up!”

George visited the restaurant with his mom and others.

“They came here with their friends, because Sandringham isn’t that far away,” Desmond shared. Prince William and Kate have a vacation home, Anmer Hall, in the area.

The cafe owner called George a 'sweet boy.'

Speaking of George’s personality, the cafe owner said,  “He was a sweet boy — they start to become less appealing as they grow up.”

Sadly, even with his charming character, George won’t be able to pursue his pizza chef dreams at the Wiveton Hall Cafe because it will be closing in November 2024, after 17 years of business.

Desmond said running the business became 'difficult.'

“It’s sad when things change, but I believe something else will happen in time,” Desmond said. “There has been an increase in costs, with electricity very high, and it has been harder to recruit staff. Despite having a very busy summer, it is difficult to run a business 12 months a year if it is seasonal and only profitable for a few months.”

George and his siblings love to cook.

While visiting Lavender Primary School in 2019, Kate Middleton said that all of her children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — love to cook.

“She was telling us how much her children love cooking and how they cook for her,” Matthew Kleiner-Mann, the school’s headmaster, said, according to People. “They made cheesy pasta the other day. One stirs the flour, one puts the milk and butter in. And they make salads and stuff. Food is important to her and she understands the links between mental health and physical exercise.”

“It’s interesting how food and energy and how you feel work together,” Kate said during her visit to the school. “It’s amazing the connection between physical and mental well-being.”

Prince George may only be 11, but he has some serious career goals for the future. Will he be a chef before he becomes king? Only time will tell.
