Tina Turner Dead at 83: Gloria Gaynor & More Celebrities React

A representative confirmed the death of legendary musician Tina Turner on May 24. The 83-year-old died in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. The news has devastated her friends and fans alike, with many celebrities immediately taking to social media to share their heartbreak over the news.

The news was announced on Tina's official Instagram account.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner," said the post. "With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow."

The message went on to call her a legend before commemorating her work. "All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly."

Some of her famous followers commented on the post.

Many celebrities sent their condolences.

Fellow celebrities shared their thoughts in the comments of the Instagram post.

"You've meant so much to us!!" wrote Sandra Bernhard in her comment. "Your courage, strength, resilience, and uniqueness have been some of the main ingredients of your blueprint. Rest well!!"

Meanwhile, "I Will Survive" singer Gloria Gaynor made an Instagram tribute to Tina of her own, writing: "I am so, so very sad to hear of the passing of Tina Turner, the iconic, legend who paved the way for so many women in rock music, black and white. She did with great dignity and success what very few would even have dared to do in her time and in that genre of music. I mourn her passing along with her innumerable fans around the country and around the world."

The singer was mourned by many celebrities on Twitter as well.

Many people shared their sadness on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.

"A true legend has passed," George Takei wrote. "Tina Turner has died at the age of 83. She was our River Deep and our Mountain High, the Private Dancer in our hearts. She showed us that love really does has everything to do with it, and that we really did need another hero. And she was it. Rest now …"

Holly Robinson Peete and others sent messages of love.

"A life to celebrate … Rest In Peace Queen Tina Turner," Holly wrote.

Author Stephen King quoted the late singer in his remarks. "Tina Turner: Simply the best," he wrote.

The Princess Bride's Cary Elwes gave Tina high praise. "Legends never die," he wrote. "They live on in our collective psyche forever. Thank you for enriching our lives, Tina. Rest in power … "
