Charlize Theron Calls Out Jeff Bezos & Lauren Sánchez for Lavish Wedding: ‘They Suck’

Numerous celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, and Oprah Winfrey, attended Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding from Friday, June 27 to Sunday, June 29. In fact, so many celebrities attended that Charlize Theron joked she might be the only one who wasn’t invited. She doesn’t mind though.

She thinks Jeff and Lauren ‘suck.’

On June 28, when many other celebrities were at the Bezos wedding, Charlize hosted her annual Africa Outreach Project Block Party. The block party helps raise money to support the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. In a speech at the start of the event, Charlize mentioned the Bezos wedding and didn’t hold back from sharing how she really felt about it.

“I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding,” Charlize said, per The Hollywood Reporter. “But that’s OK because they suck and we’re cool.”

Charlize added that ‘the world feels like it’s burning.’

During her speech, Charlize also addressed the current political climate. She called many of the policy changes in the United States “heartbreaking.” The actress was born in South Africa and later became a US citizen. Prior to becoming a citizen, she was deported for overstaying her visa, per The Hollywood Reporter.

“Here in Los Angeles, in the US, and across the globe, we’re moving backwards fast,” she continued. “Immigration policy has destroyed the lives of families, not criminals; women’s rights are becoming less and less every day; queer and trans lives are increasingly being erased; and gender-based violence is on the rise.”

“This isn’t just policy, it’s personal,” she added. “Yeah, f— them.”

‘Millions of people … are going to die,’ she continued.

Charlize also warned that the consequences of the Trump administration’s foreign aid cuts will be devastating. Per Variety, she didn’t mention President Donald Trump directly during the speech.

“Foreign aid cuts brought HIV and AIDS programs in my home country of South Africa to an absolute standstill,” she said. “All of this is not just detrimental, it’s dangerous. People will lose their lives. Many have already unfortunately and at a frightening rate. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to see this kind of unnecessary suffering.”
