Amid protests against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, Kim Kardashian is speaking up. On June 10, Kim took to her Instagram Stories to speak out in support of the “innocent, hardworking” immigrants who help our communities “thrive.”
Kim says ‘we have to do what’s right.’
Via her Instagram Stories, Kim condemned ICE for failing to keep people safe and harming innocent people instead. “When we’re told that ICE exists to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals – great,” Kim wrote. “But when we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families in inhumane ways, we have to speak up. We have to do what’s right.”
Kim suggested that regardless of political affiliation, people should recognize “that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants.”
“Growing up in LA, I’ve seen how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city,” Kim continued in the post. “They are our neighbors, friends, classmates, coworkers, and family.”
She concluded with, “We can’t turn a blind eye when fear and injustice keep people from living their lives freely and safely. There HAS to be a BETTER way.”
A Department of Homeland Security official tried to argue with Kim about it.
A DHS official clearly didn’t appreciate Kim’s comments. After Kim’s post went viral, DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin tried to argue with her about her stance.
Tagging Kim on a post on X, Tricia wrote, “@KimKardashian, which one of these convicted child molesters, murderers, drug traffickers and rapists would you like to stay in the county? These are just a few of the convicted illegal criminals who have been picked up in the last 72 hours.” She included several photos of people who have been detained by ICE.
Others found Kim’s take a bit hypocritical.
There were many others who didn’t love Kim’s statement, albeit for very different reasons. Although they agreed with the overall message, it didn’t mean much to them coming from Kim. Several critics pointed to how Kim previously shared a photo of Melania Trump to her Instagram Stories during President Donald Trump’s inauguration and wished her friend Ivanka Trump a happy birthday just before the election.
“Kim Kardashian literally posted this picture of Melania Trump on her instagram story during the inauguration of Donald Trump,” one critic wrote on X. “Now she wants to speak out against the ICE raids. Maybe she should’ve spoken out before and not supported the Trumps.”
Another critic joked that Kim probably wrote the post “from Ivanka’s living room,” while another suggested that “Ivanka is about to send Kim an angry text.”
“Was this before or after her cybertruck photoshoot?” another person questioned, referring to Kim’s controversial photo session with Tesla products amid Elon Musk’s involvement with the Trump administration.
However, some people praised Kim for speaking up.
Others defended Kim, saying speaking out is the right thing to do regardless of what she has done in the past. “She just means it needs to be handled in a better and more humane way,” one person wrote on X. “What’s going on currently is sad.”
Another person wrote, “kim speaking out against ICE is actually so important. like say what you want about her but she’s using her platform for something real. we need more celebs doing this fr, not just when it’s trendy.”
A third person added, writing, “regardless of her intentions, she’s getting the message to a huge group of people, I don’t see what is bad about that.”
Khloé Kardashian has also spoken up.
On June 11, Khloé joined her sister in calling out ICE for being “inhumane.”
“If ICE’s mission is truly to protect us from real threats, who wouldn’t support that?” Khloé wrote via her Instagram Stories. “They call this protection, but let’s be honest, what we see is violence. What we see is punishment. What we see is inhumane. We see families being destroyed. We see fear.”
Khloé emphasized that what’s happening right now is not “protection.” Instead, it’s “gross injustice.”
“When fear replaces justice, and families live in constant anxiety, we’ve lost our way,” she continued. “There has to be a more compassionate, more humane way forward.”
