Readers of a certain age who have always wondered whatever happened with Vanilla Ice and Madonna's short-lived 1990s love affair are in luck this week. The rapper has finally opened up about what went down between himself and the queen of pop in a new interview, giving us a nostalgia-fueled look back at their wild relationship.
The '90s star appeared on the 'Just Jenny' with Jenny Hutt podcast on Tuesday.
Madonna and Vanilla Ice were romantically linked for about eight months in 1991. Apparently, it was love at first sight when the rapper first met Madonna at an event.
"I remember she came back to the dressing room and said hello to me, and she kind of gave me the sexy eyes, and I was like … I must be mistaken on that," he said, referencing their nine-year age difference.
Things moved fast for the pair after that.
"I didn't know what was going on," the now 55-year-old confessed. "My whole life is a snow globe … shaken up."
There wasn't time for anything to settle down, either. Instead, Madonna took their relationship to the next level in a way that shocked Vanilla Ice to his core.
That's when Madonna asked for his hand in marriage.
It was a request that spelled the beginning of the end for their relationship, which makes sense because they hadn't even been dating for a full year yet.
"I was just like, 'What?! I thought the guy was supposed to [get down on one knee],'" he recalled during the interview. "'What do you mean? Wait a minute. This is too fast. I'm just getting started here, and I'm way too young for this!'"
In the end, it was Madonna's 1992 book that signaled the end of the relationship.
The rapper claims that the final straw was Madonna's controversial book, Sex.
"I thought it was so slutty. I didn't want to be a part of it," he continued. "I could've sued her. I didn't want to. I was like … 'You go your way, and I go mine.'"
Yikes. Someone tell Vanilla Ice that slut-shaming wasn't cool in the '90s, and it's definitely not cool now.
It appears everything worked out for both of them in the end.
Madonna went on to have two marriages — with Sean Penn and Guy Ritchie — and raise six children. As for Vanilla Ice, he ended up finding a partner as well and is the father to three girls.
Their love may not have been meant to be, but we're sure their wild relationship left them both with plenty of good stories to share.
