It's tough to find easy campfire recipes sure to please every camper in your tent. Sure, everyone loves s'mores, but you can't feed the whole family just dessert. That is, unless you relish having to cope with the inevitable sugar-high and meltdown that follows in its wake.
You can cook tasty, savory, delicious, and fun food at your campsite. And you can do it without breaking out fancy cooking kits, buying new supplies, and creating a massive mess to clean up later. An added bonus? These recipes aren't just easy and tasty — they're fun! The work will go by even faster with the kiddos helping, and these recipes will definitely make them eager to play sous chef.
1.) Tacos in a Bag
This one is a blast! In terms of prep, you just pack up your desired ingredients before you set out for the site. Once there, each kid gets a bag of chips to crunch up. Then they top it with their favorite combination of goodies. No dishes required here. When everyone's done, it goes straight to the trash.
2.) Campfire Cones
This fresh take on the old s'mores classic will have everyone licking their chops. Take pre-made waffle cones, stuff them with a combo of chocolate, berries, and marshmallows, wrap them in foil, and let them get toasty in the fire! It's ice cream without the ice!
3.) Campfire Pizza
This one's a campfire recipe classic! If you bring only ONE kitchen implement on your trip, consider the Dutch oven. In less than 20 minutes, you can have a pizza fit for a king! It will taste so good, everyone will think you convinced a pizza place to deliver to the middle of the woods. Plus, one pot = less clean-up!
Mac and cheese over a campfire? That's my absolute favorite. It's also fun to watch each kid put together the foil packets their pasta will cook in. Seven minutes to a personalized dinner with zero clean-up? It literally does not get better.
5.) Curly Dogs
This favorite recipe is as easy and delicious as they come. With zero prep, turn pre-made crescent roll dough and a hot-dog on a stick into a delicious, cute, curly dog. Half the fun of these is watching kids learn how to cook them over that open fire — so be sure you bring plenty of extras in case there are dog causalities!
