Getting everyone out the door on time is a job in and of itself! One of the ways to make departures more efficient is by finding or creating spaces for our stuff to land upon arrival. Whether you only have the wall space behind your door or a complete mudroom to work with, there are plenty of creative ways to keep those backpacks and shoes from ending up dispersed throughout the house for someone else to trip over. Keep it simple and add furniture with multiple open shelves, so you have plenty of spaces to easily stash the odds and ends your family brings in each day — without having to dig through drawers! Build Your Own Storage
Heidi of *Honeybear Lane *came up with this amazing solution to keeping her family's coats, shoes, and backpacks from piling up at the bottom of the closet. She shares her experience and the plans she used to build this DIY Mudroom Bench with overhead storage all by herself.
Set Up a Family Command Center
Make use of tight spaces by creating a small but utilitarian Family Command Center, adding hanging baskets and hooks like Kristin of I'm an Organizing Junkie did behind her front door. It's a convenient place to gather homework and hang backpacks the night before so no one has to scramble.
