The Color of Your Nail Polish Might Say a Lot About Your Sex Life

We all have our own affinities for certain nail polish colors. I love various shades of gray and black on my fingernails and a berry shade on my toes, though sometimes I wear gold and silver, and maybe even a mix of colors when I'm feeling adventurous. And apparently, that all means something — a study has linked nail polish choice to how freaky you are in the bedroom. Judging by nails, I know a lot of kinky ladies, I guess.

According to an online survey of over 2,000 people, what color nail polish you choose could reveal a lot about you.

Jacklyn Bloemker, marketer for Spray Perfect, and her team at Regina Corso Consulting conducted the online survey to see what nail polish colors seem to reveal about our personalities — specifically when it came to our sex lives. We all have our own thoughts, but these findings reveal what others think, too. Ladies, your nail polish says more than you think.

First let's note that 59 percent of those surveyed truly believe in this hype — that your nail polish reveals things about your personality. With that in mind, perhaps we should think deeper about the colors we choose? Or … not.

If you wear black nail polish, you are a rebel, of course.

Once upon a time this meant you were goth. Black polish used to only be found around Halloween time or at Ricky's, but now it's everywhere. More than 47 percent of the people surveyed feel that black nail polish wearers were more dominant types in the bedroom.

It was 57 percent of men who believed women who wore black polish were more the dominatrix type compared to 38 percent of women. I wear black nail polish because it seems to match my heart most days. Just kidding. It does always match my clothes. Could black nail polish be the new women's power suit? Sure beats those shoulder pads.

If you wear red nail polish, you are a sex kitten.

Really? Oh yes! Red being the color of love translates over to the nails as well. I find it to be timeless and reminiscent of old Hollywood. Over 31 percent of the people surveyed think that red nail polish wearers are passionate and desire a romantic love life. (Don't we all?!)

Men are most into this: 43 percent thought red equals passion, compared to 19 percent of women. Maybe this is why many men buy red roses for women — the color is just synonymous with love. Sure, some ladies who wear red polish feel like a bombshell, but that doesn't mean that those wearing a green polish don't feel that way, too. Still, red is one of those colors that we cannot deny brings a bit of passion into our lives subliminally or not.

If you wear multicolored nail polish, you are considered "a lady in the streets, but a freak in the sheets."

Wow! A freak? What would that mean? Perhaps these ladies could become the next Dr. Ruth? Or maybe they could save sexless marriages? This is according to 28 percent of those surveyed. So those who get those intricate manicures might have some sex tips to share with those of us who just prefer a clear coat. Forty percent of the men surveyed believe this to be true as well — though only 17 percent of women agreed. Sometimes we just like ALL THE COLORS!

I do love polishing my nails in many different shades of the rainbow. And I will admit that I often choose based on my mood. Gray when I'm cranky. Brown when I want coffee. Gold when I wish I had more money. Something like that. But when I'm feeling particularly sensual, I'm not exactly focused on what color to paint to my nails … if you know what I mean.
