15 Kids’ Rooms & Nurseries Cleverly Carved Out of Small Spaces

Not everyone has — or wants — the luxury of a big house with multiple rooms. And when a baby enters the picture, that means it's time to get creative when it comes to carving out a space designated for changing diapers, playing, and, most importantly, sleeping.

From seriously stylish nurseries built into tiny closets to creative ways for fitting three kids in one (small) room, here are 15 baby and kids' rooms carved into unconventional spaces. It's amazing what a can of paint and a little creativity can do.

A Baby Nursery in a (Small) Closet

Did you ever think a baby nursery that was in a closet — a small closet — could be this gorgeous?! The key here is bright white paint, loads of natural light, and pretty green plants. Best to keep things simple and fresh when you're working in such a cramped space.

The Hallway Nursery

Full disclosure: This hallway nursery was actually my daughter's, back when we lived in a one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn. We kept everything as light as possible with a few pops of pastel colors, and added sliding panels from Ikea to give her "privacy" when she slept. Which was never.

The 3-Story Bunks

Three kids, one room? It is possible if you get creative with bunk beds. And speaking of bunk beds, what kid wouldn't want bunk beds that are three beds high? Win-win.

Built-In Beds

Speaking of bunk beds, these built-in beds not only add space to this super tight room, they add a serious dose of style. Well played, Mom and Dad.

Attic (Double) Bedroom

This photo (from Zilverblauw and shared by Ikea) is proof that small, awkward attics with low A-frame ceilings can work not only as a bedroom for one person, but for two!

Skinny & Stylish

Not a lot can fit into this super narrow room, but Mom and Dad did a good job. Love how the furniture and overall feeling of this room isn't super "babyish," even though it's a nursery.

Little Nursery, Big Art

This teeny nursery proves that just because the room isn't big doesn't mean the wall decor can't be bold.

These smart parents had their baby sleep in a hammock above their bed. "It's very convenient when I'm breastfeeding during the night," said mom Hanne Rismyhr, "and we love hearing his snoring and funny sounds from above!"

A Sweet Baby Nook

Another cute baby nook in the corner of the master bedroom. When in doubt, add a few sweet photos and some colorful pom-pom bunting. Adorable.

A Colorful Closet Nook

Talk about a cheerful baby nook. So clever to take the closet doors off to allow for more space — and those bright pops of color could make any nighttime feeding fun. Well, almost.

Gray & White's Alright

This uber-small nursery is proof that when you're decorating in a tiny space, soothing, light colors — and not too many of them — work best.

Walk-In Closet Nursery

If it weren't for the curtain "door," it would almost be hard to tell that this pretty baby nursery was once a walk-in closet. That is 65 square feet of pure innovation right there.

More Walk-In Goodness

Love how this walk-in-closet-turned-nursery houses most of the toys on the shelves to make more room. Also, lucky for them to have a window!

Built-In Nursery

If you live in a one-bedroom apartment, or simply want to have baby sleep in your room, this is how you do an in-room nursery. With built-ins. Doesn't get much cleaner-looking than this.
