Growing up, there was nothing I hated more than water shoes. They felt clunky and totally interfered with me running around like a wildling on the beach. I suffered through sharp shells, rocks, and the occasional dead squishy sea creature all to avoid those embarrassing shoes.
I'm older now and far more practical, but in truth am still vain enough to be embarrassed to wear such hideous, function-only shoes. But thanks to more than 2,400 Amazon reviewers, my poor feet might be saved this summer, because of a fairly stylish and apparently very durable water shoe.
VIFUUR Water Sports Shoes are only $13 and come in a literal 40 varieties of colors -- and honestly look like a semifashionable shoe.
The material is said to be easy slip on with a quick-dry fabric. It has a rubber sole, making it good for various terrains, and is evidently as light as a sock. The shoes themselves come in kid's, women's, and men's sizes for the whole family. The best part, though? These water shoes are only $13!
Reviewers have also been singing their praises on high.
"Wore these on a cruise…swam in 3 spots in the Caribbean, and they were so comfortable and protective," wrote user Leona J. Martin. "No sand collected inside and they dried quickly. Several other cruise guests loved them and wanted to know where I got them. Fit like a glove (or comfy smooth sock). Definitely a good purchase."
A few other expressed some complaints, mostly revolving on sizing.
Several users recommended measuring your foot and cross-referencing with the provided size chart. A few folks also mentioned that the shoes aren't meant for high-impact activity. A casual walk on the beach or at the pool are pretty much what these are made for.
Despite the few negative reviews, in general, people seemed to really love them.
And at $13 a pop, I know I'm going to at least give them a shot.
