Numerous articles from credible fashion mags say you should NEVER wash your jeans. Most of said articles reference the employee handbook of upscale denim brand A.P.C., which reads, "Throw them in the freezer if they become intolerable in smell, but whatever you do, do not wash them."
I wouldn't go that far, but I do try to wash my denim as infrequently as possible. Between washes, I keep my jeans fresh with a DIY spray made with distilled water, baking soda, and essential oils.
