Fingernail tattoos have arrived, but there’s a big problem

Tattoos have a long and colorful history, and every few months, it seems like a new body art trend comes along to permanently mark one's skin. Everyone, meet the new tattoo trend you should probably avoid at all costs.

People are tattooing their fingernails now — no, I'm not kidding.

Apparently this has been a thing for a while; Instagram posts with the hashtag #fingernailtattoo date as far back as 2012.

This really shouldn't come as a shock, because what WON'T people try to tattoo these days?

Don't get me wrong, they look badass...

But they're completely pointless — take it from someone who's heavily tattooed.

Why, you ask? Well, they grow out almost immediately. You could liken them fingernail bruises.

Just like cuticle tattoos, these aren't actually permanent because they don't penetrate the epidermis, leaving them to grow out naturally as the nail gets longer.

And you don't want to spend upwards of $100 on ink that'll be halfway gone in two weeks.

They're also — *whips out megaphone* — REALLY BAD FOR YOUR NAILS.

I love creative tattoos, but this trend?

I think we can just leave it.
