How to walk like a goddess in heels or flats

It sounds weird, but walking has always been part of my job. Before I was a beauty and fashion editor, I was a model — so you have to be confident walking like an absolute badass in heels.

These days I mostly wear flats, and you want to walk elegantly in those, too.

So today, a GIF gift from me to you: I'm going to show you how to walk like an absolute GODDESS in both heels and flats.

Here's how to kill it in heels.

Walking well in heels is all about having good posture.

No slouching! Stand tall and proud!

Your stride and pace should be comfortable.

Don't take giant leaps or teeny-tiny baby steps, don't run, and don't stomp your feet (runway models do that to show off how beautifully the clothes move). Imagine a great song is playing, and walk to the beat.

Imagine you're walking on a tightrope.

(This takes some practice, but it's worth it.)

If it feels natural, add some switch to your walk.

Voila! The world is your runway!

Naomi's got nothing on you.

Now get ready to slay in flats.

Once again, good posture is key!

No heels? Yes Virginia, you can still look taller with good posture. This means shoulders down and back, neck long — as one of my ballet teachers used to say, imagine a golden thread gently lifting your head and keeping it there.

Again: your stride is really important. No giant bounds, no teeny-tiny steps, no stomping.

Put one foot in front of the other, with each step rolling gently from heel to toe.

This gives a straightforward gliding motion to your walk, rather than a side-to-side duck waddle.
