Different parts, same process?
The recently released 2016 Passion Report by pleasure company We-Vibe surveyed over 1,000 men and women around the US about their masturbation habits and found that, really, we do a lot of the same things.
Men's Journal and Refinery29 both reported on the results from the male and female perspectives, respectively.
Here are some of the things We-Vibe found:

Other female celebrities people tended to fantasize about include Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Lawrence, and Jessica Alba; other men include Ryan Gosling, Adam Levine, Johnny Depp, and Justin Timberlake.
Seems that people still use their imaginations to get off after all!

You know, things like watching porn, listening to music, looking at pictures, or using sex toys. Of that 62%, most (69%) were men, but women weren't all that far behind (54%).
The study also found a correlation between income and masturbation routines — those reporting higher incomes were more likely to say they followed a routine (a need for structure, perhaps?).

According to the survey results, 20% of men and 19% of women say they've masturbated in the car at some point. Midwestern respondents are particularly naughty: 35% of them have masturbated in the car.
Let's just hope they weren't driving at the same time.

Sad, right? We-Vibe found that 49% of people say they've either exaggerated or understated their sexual activity.
As for gender, the stats are the same in terms of who flaunts it and who doesn't: 16% of men overstated their sexual endeavors, and 14% of women did the same.
Not only that, but 22% of respondents have never spoken openly about their sex lives — that breaks down to 27% male, and 16% female, so women overall tend to be more open about their sex lives. You go, girls 😉
