Mom Accidentally Glues Her Eyes Shut After Mistaking Nail Glue for Eye Drops

When your eye is in pain, you can feel a little desperate. Your eyes are one of the most sensitive and most important parts of your body. If your vision is restricted, you obviously want things to get back to normal as quickly as possible.

One North Carolina foster mother was doing just that when she grabbed the wrong bottle and poured something other than eye drops into her eyes. The mistake landed her in the hospital. Now, doctors don’t know how long her recovery will take or what condition her eyes will be in when she opens them.

The woman's daughter shared video of her mom on TikTok.

Ria Faggart, the woman’s daughter, shared a video of her mother in a hospital bed with her eyes closed, Fox News reported. In the text over the video, Faggart wrote, “POV: your mother thought her nail glue was her eye drops.”

The mom was admitted to a hospital in Concord, North Carolina, in December. On a GoFundMe page, Faggart shared that her mother had glued her eyes shut.

The recovery will be long.

Faggart also provided an update stating that her mother’s eyes would be closed for five to seven weeks. Afterward, doctors will open the lids to determine if there is any damage.

Faggart explained that her mom will be out of work during her recovery. “We appreciate all of the prayers and concern,” she wrote on the GoFundMe page.”She will be out of work and she is a foster mom, so she does not have disability [insurance].”

Presumably, the GoFundMe account has been launched to help cover her expenses while she recovers. Thus far, it has raised more than $1,000 of a $3,500 goal.

This woman is not the only person to experience a medical mix-up when it comes to eye drops.

This is not the first time this type of accident has occurred, however. This past October, another woman took to TikTok to discuss the importance of keeping medical products well-organized, People reported.

'As soon as it hit my eye, I started screaming,' the woman shared on TikTok.

Brianne Shipley was half-asleep when she attempted to apply eye drops for a bacterial infection. “As the drop was falling I realized the consistency of the plastic bottle felt wrong,” she told People. “As soon as it hit my eye, I started screaming.”

Shipley had dropped the glue she uses for arts and crafts projects into her eye. Thankfully, because she flushed her eye before going to the hospital and with treatment once there, including an additional flush, numbing, and medicated ointment, she was able to recover fully.
