People Are Sharing Their Most Unsettling And Unpopular Makeup Opinions On Reddit

People have some seriously strong opinions about makeup. Some don't like it at all while others are all about that full-face life. Some are into the dewy look, while others live for matte. And while everybody has their own thing, there are some opinions that can be downright outrageous.

So as the trend of "unpopular opinion" threads continue to take over social media feeds, Reddit just added to that with its own kind. Almost a thousand people are sharing their most outrageous makeup opinions ,and they will have you scratching your head and throwing some serious side-eye.

It all started with one opinion about eyebrows.

"I like thinner, straighter, lighter eyebrows on me than thicker dark and arched. I naturally have thicker dark eyebrows, and I absolutely hated them. I finally got the courage to clean them up and thin them out a bit. They’re so much more flattering on my face!!! I plan to bleach them a bit lighter in the future. I just love the look of lighter eyebrows," a muted eyebrow lover said.

And it followed with some unexpected praise for brown eyeliner.

"Black eyeliner isn’t suitable for everyone, and brown eyeliner is underrated. I feel like this is a weird opinion, but black eyeliner can drag some peoples' eyes down (like mine) and look too much. I’m not saying they shouldn’t wear it, they should wear whatever they like! Just personally think brown eyeliner is so soft and beautiful," another makeup minimalist continued.

And who would have thought full-coverage complexion products had gotten such a bad rep?

"I'm not a fan of full coverage foundation / concealer for acne-prone skin. I think it looks more natural to use a light-medium coverage base to reduce the overall redness of the face, and then only spot conceal if some redness sticks out. Acne may be visible, but the overall look of the face looks more like skin than like a thick layer of makeup," another said.

Maybe white liner doesn't always make eyes look bigger.

"I’m not a fan of white eyeliner to make eyes appear larger. It looks very obvious and sort of creepy in my opinion. A nude eyeliner looks much better if you want your eyes to appear brighter," someone said while suggesting nude liner over white.

This one, however, is downright outrageous.

"I freaking hate false lashes. I feel like mascara does enough, and the massive lashes just take away from the look you've done a lot of the time. It's like putting a spider curtain in front of a really nice sunset. Of course lots of people can rock it, I'm sure it's just me being biased because I feel they're personally unnecessary – if lashes are your thing, then fantastic!! Lash it up," someone wrote.

This opinion, however, we may be able to get with.

"I'm so over fake freckles. Most of the time they look so fake and strategically placed. It doesn't work for everyone's complexion and it gives adults a weird cutesy little girl look. Idk it just makes me itch," someone said. And we must say, the faux-freckle fad has seriously gone overboard.

Even Nikkie Tutorials got called out.

"Highlighter needs to be used VERY lightly. Nikki Tutorials and beauty gurus like her constantly look drenched in sweat or water. I don't disagree with it entirely, but only use a little," someone not so keen on highlighter said.

And who would have thought cruelty-free brands would be called out?

"'Cruelty free' isn't nearly as important as people make it out to be, and is only really possible because the ingredients they use were previously tested and found to be safe. People act like it's the make or break for whether they can morally support companies, when it's often just marketing and convenience for the company more than anything else. It also doesn't absolve companies of the responsibility to behave ethically and sustainably," someone said.

Do you agree with this statement about expensive brushes?

"1) Celebrity-made brush sets (and expensive brush sets in general) are overrated. I get the need if you're a professional MUA, but average person can get by with any brush set that has a good handle, doesn't scratch your face and doesn't lose hair or colour during washing.

2) Foundation in winter is an annoying calamity. Concealer and a little setting powder works ok for me.

3) Bronzers and highlighters aren't necessary for everyday look. Keep them handy for weddings and other special occasions," a financially conscious makeup lover said.

And finally, there's this primer opinion that can't really be disproven.

Reddit

"My unpopular makeup opinion is that primer serves absolutely no purpose (on me). They just don't work or do anything (for me) other than clog my pores and make my foundation slide off. I know people swear by them but I just get better makeup results and better looking skin when I don't use them, I just cleanse and moisturise and put my makeup on," a very lucky woman who's never had to buy primer said.

What's your unpopular opinion?
