My Girlfriend Cheated on Me So I Sold the Taylor Swift Tickets I Bought Her, but Did I Take It Too Far?

Gift giving can be challenging sometimes. There’s an art to figuring out exactly what those near and dear to you might truly want. Then there are other times when the stars align and you have the money and the time to not only get your loved one the perfect gift but also an experience they won’t soon forget. That’s what happened when a considerate boyfriend scored tickets for him and his girlfriend to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Sadly, the relationship took a sour turn, and he’s wondering if he’s wrong for selling the tickets.

A man scored Taylor Swift tickets for his girlfriend.

The boyfriend wrote into Reddit’s AITAH forum to see if he had taken things too far. He explained that he’d recently come into some money. With the influx of cash, he decided to surprise his girlfriend with tickets to Taylor’s Vancouver show. “She’s been a massive Swiftie since forever and I knew this would mean the world to her,” he explained. “I spent around $800 for two really good seats.”

Then he learned she had been cheating on him.

He made the disturbing discovery last week. “She’d been secretly meeting up with her ‘work friend’ for months,” he wrote. “I found out because she accidentally left her Instagram DMs open on my laptop (she’d been using it to print something), and I saw weeks of flirty messages and plans to meet up.”

When the OP confronted his girlfriend, she tried to deny it at first. Eventually, she admitted that they’d kissed several times and she was having an emotional affair.

The OP decided to sell the tickets.

“I was devastated,” the OP shared. “These tickets were meant to be a special experience for us, and I couldn’t stomach the thought of taking her after this betrayal. Rather than let them go to waste, I decided to sell them. Given how insane the Taylor Swift ticket market is right now, I managed to sell them for $2,400 — triple what I paid.”

When the girlfriend found out that the OP sold the tickets, she “lost it.”

The girlfriend called him petty and cruel.

“She’s been blowing up my phone, calling me petty and cruel, saying I ‘ruined her dream’ and that the tickets were a ‘gift’ so they belonged to her. Her friends are also messaging me saying I’m an awful person for using the tickets to hurt her.”

The OP believed he had every right to sell them because he purchased them with his own money – not to mention her actions in all of this are what made him sell. His girlfriend, however, is making him think he took things too far.

The people of Reddit agreed he had every right to sell the tickets.

Redditors were quick to assure him that he as not the a–hole in the situation.

“She ruined her dream all by herself!!” one person wrote.

“It wasn’t an emotional affair if they were kissing,” someone else pointed out. “It was an actual affair. If you still took her to a concert after she had an affair with someone else, THAT would be weird. You should move on and let her have her new relationship out in the open and let THAT person buy her Swift tickets.”

Another person delivered a hard truth. “Notice she’s more upset about the loss of the ticket and not you OP. Tells you everything you need to know.”
