I don't know if you've heard, because there's been absolutely no coverage of it lately, but Taylor Swift has a new album coming out soon. The themes of "Reputation" appear to be "revenge" and "pettiness," though if that's a surprise I'm not sure what to tell you.
But more importantly than all that, Taylor Swift has a new favorite red lipstick. Did you hear that, Swifties? Taylor's old lipstick can't come to the phone right now, because SHE'S DEAD.
But Alle, I hear you wailing and gnashing your teeth. What's Taylor's favorite red lipstick now, in the year of our lord 2017?
As always, I have all the Swift answers. Let's take a deep dive into Taylor's lipstick history, and I shall reveal *all* of her favorite red lipsticks, from 2009 to today.
Back in 2009, Taylor's favorite red lipstick was a matte, bright, cherry red — a shade that complemented her poppy, innocent persona.
If I had to guess, I'd put money on this being NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl ($27, Sephora), a shade Swift was said to love in her younger days.
In 2012 — the "Red" era, for those of you playing along at home — Taylor made straightened hair and blue-red glossy lipstick her signature.
This *may* be MAC Cosmetics Ruby Woo ($17, Nordstrom) with some gloss overtop, a shade Swift said she was the last to discover. It may also be the (no longer available) Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge lipstick in Iconic Red, which she posted about on Instagram once upon a time.
Please don't ask me how I remember that when I regularly forget my own address, but here we are.
In 2014, as "1989" embedded itself in our collective consciences, Taylor took her "red-lipped, classic thing" that we like to new levels.
I suspect that *this* album's red lipstick of choice — extremely perfect which suggests a liquid formula, semi-matte, clearly long-wearing — was Shiseido Lacquer Rouge in Drama ($25, Sephora).
And as we all remember, that name was PRETTY appropriate.
But then! Along came the 2016 Met Gala, and ~dark Taylor~ emerged, complete with white-blonde hair and dark red lips.
A lot of people LIVED AND DIED for this look, but it was just OK. It's not a glow-up, nor a glow-down… it's a glow-pivot-to-video. Definitely A Thing, but what *kind* of thing remains to be seen.
I still don't know what this exact color she's wearing is, though if you throw a rock at any makeup brand, you can find one similar. My favorite black-red lipstick is Black Moon Cosmetics liquid lipstick in Deranged ($16, Black Moon) if you like a red-black, and Abyss ($16, Black Moon) if you prefer a more purple-red shade.
Whatever lil T was wearing here certainly worked — rumor has it she met future internet punching bag Tom Hiddleston at this party.
Swift stayed with the dark red motif and added glitter in the video for "I don't wanna live forever." Because nothing says "50 Shades of Grey" bondage-lite like sparkle.
Taylor is wearing Vermillion Venom from Pat McGrath Labs LUST 004 release — in some scenes she's just wearing the dark matte lipstick, and in others it's topped with the holographic deep red glitter.
And now, in 2017, Taylor is back to the dark side with a signature red lipstick that's between brick and wine.
If I had one guess, I'd say this red is likely NARS Velvet Matte Lip pencil in Endangered Red ($27, Sephora) — it's a brand we know she favors and a formula it's established she likes. I have Endangered Red, and while it can be sheered out to create more of a stain, it does wear with this same dark intensity.
She's even wearing this new lipstick to hang out with her old friends, so evidently Old Taylor could still come to the phone *occasionally*
Which red lipstick will T. Swift wear next? How will she continue to victimize her public persona in the future? Truly, the options are endless.
If Taylor really wants edge, she should call me. I have a wardrobe full of genuinely great lipsticks — bright red, dark red, metallic — and a *lot* of questions to ask her.
