One of the best things about traveling in an RV is having so many of the comforts of home. Depending on your RV, you may have access to a full-sized bed, bathroom amenities, kitchen space, and more. When it comes to cooking in an RV, the experience really depends on the type of RV — some RVs require cooking over outdoor camp stoves, while others have full luxury kitchens. No matter what kind of RV you have, there are some great ways to make the most out of the cooking experience. Here are some of our best tips for cooking in an RV:
1. Plan Out Your Meals
Planning out your meals and snacks in advance can be a great way to cut down on costs and only buy what you need. Make detailed grocery lists and stick to it! If you’re planning on eating out or ordering in, make sure to account for that.
2. Print Recipes
You never know what your cell service/internet access might look like when you’re traveling, so make sure to print out recipes in advance so you have access to them without your phone/computer.
3. Bring a Camp Stove
When you’re traveling in an RV, you’ll want to spend lots of time outside. Bring a camp stove for days when you want to spend a little extra time enjoying the nice weather.
4. Bring Basic Cooking Equipment
When cooking in an RV, you’ll need the essentials: a sharp knife, a cutting board, a cast-iron skillet, a set of utensils (per person), metal skewers, a can opener, and tongs.
5. Bring a Cooler for Drinks
Space can be limited in RV refrigerators, so bringing a cooler for drinks can be a great way to optimize fridge space. A cooler is also beneficial for having quick access to drinks when you’re sitting outside.
6. Don’t Forget About Coffee
If you’re a daily coffee drinker, make sure you have a coffee plan for your RV! We’d recommend a non-powered coffee maker (since you may not always have access to power), like an AeroPress, a French press, or a stovetop percolator. Of course, you can also bring pre-made coffee and store it in the fridge or cooler.
7. Stay on Top of Cleaning
The last thing you want in an RV is for your space to get messy. Clean as you go to make sure you minimize clutter and free up counter space.
