More than ever before, there is a lot that rests on the shoulders of women. We're working full-time, raising kids, doing more than our fair share of home chores and duties, and with the global health crisis, we're carrying even more. It's been a stressful year for women, but if we look back through history, it's never really been an easy ride for women.
Though there are many facets of life that are better for women than it has been in the past, there's still a lot of room for growth. Women have to put up with a lot that we shouldn't have to deal with, and it speaks to two things: Women are powerful and change is coming.
Sometimes, when things are stressful, the best thing to do is laugh. And these tweets about what it's really like being a woman in today's society are equal parts eye-opening and the chuckle we need to get us up and start kicking butt and taking names.
Back to Work
It's not funny, but it's real and sometimes all we can do is laugh. While the exact dollar amount varies by where we live and other factors, the gender pay gap is still a reality and it has gotten worse over the past year due to the global health crisis.
Sure, Don't Listen to Us
While we're ready for this to be done already, it's true and relatable. We are tired of our ideas, worries, and feelings being invalid until a generic dude spells it out for others.
Please Explain My Experiences Back
Not only is her tweet super accurate, but for those of us who take birth control and have side effects, they're awful. But a dude had to come in and explain to the tweeter that her lived reality is wrong. Can men not, please?
Both Are Accurate
The invention of the bra gives us mixed feelings. We can't wait to take the off and one of the best things about 2020 was not needing to wear one. But, TBH, we feel the same way about dudes.
Smile? Really?
Women today are often questioned when out minding their own business on why they're not smiling. The excuse doesn't fit when it's said about men. This tweet is so funny, we even cracked a smile.
Tread Lightly
Women of the internet have seen this play out on social media and in real life. For some reason, some dudes can't admit when they're wrong. While we're in 2021, this is a reality of being a woman. Still dealing with this.
Just a Woman on the Internet
The internet has done amazing things for the world. We're all connecting over that thing right now. But it also has some serious downsides, including the fact that people will take aim at anything a woman says.
Time Has Marched On, But Not Everyone Has Caught Up
We're damned if we do and damned if we don't. Women were expected to have babies, then women were told to find a life and not make it all about a husband and kids. But, even now, we're told that our goal in life should be to find a husband and have kids.
Trolls Are Coming
It's funny only because it's so dumb. For some reason, people have a hard time giving credit where it's due. And if a woman asks for it (or better, demands it), she always has to deal with some pushback.
If We Only Knew
This isn't just accurate for today, but it seems to be an issue that's been around since the dawn of time. They vent, we tell them what they need to know, they don't hear us. What's a lady to do?
Dating in Modern Times Is Different
We all know that trying to find friends as an adult is a challenge. The same is true for a partner. Yes, there are way more options than years ago and husbands, in theory, are easier to find. But still tricky.
Women Fit in Certain Boxes, Even in Our Deodorant
It's easy to feel the different ways that men and women are treated in the world. But this just throws it out there in a hilarious way. Those frilly names to go with the flowery scents keep our femininity front and center.
Birth Control Pills Are ...
Taking birth control pills daily is something women do for several reasons. Some use it for pregnancy prevention, others for health reasons. But this is a hilarious way to frame having to take those pills. Counting down to menstruation!
Cat Caller
It's bananas that we're still dealing with this, an issue our parents and grandparents faced, too. While cat-callers needs to stop, if they're going to do our taxes, and that's what they really mean, well, that's not so bad (one can hope, right?)
Well, Who Would Have Known?
Mansplaining has been an issue for women since the dawn of time. But even now, with everyone being aware of it, it continues to plague us. It's funny to make fun of it but we've all been in this situation, right?
Working Hard at Work & Home
We've been doing double duty for a long time — working full-time and then having to come home and take over all the home duties, too. Add to everything extra we've picked up during the global health crisis, and well, women are amazing — and we all deserve a break.
Earliest Memory of Mansplaining
Mansplaining happens when a man explains something to a woman who likely knows more about what's going on that he does. This is one of the funniest tweets about what it's like to be a woman in today's world because this paper clip was seen as "helpful" but no one ever asked for its advice. That's basically mansplaining.
