Dog the Bounty Hunter’s Family Rocked by Tragedy After 13-Year-Old Step-Grandson Fatally Shot by His Own Dad

An accidental shooting in Florida on July 19, 2025, left a 13-year-old dead and a family grieving. The incident occurred inside an apartment in Naples about 8 p.m. The family reportedly has ties to infamous bail enforcement agent Duane Chapman, better known as Dog the Bounty Hunter.

According to the Naples Daily News, the Collier County Sheriff’s Department confirmed deputies responded to a call following the shooting. A spokesperson did not identify the victim or suspected shooter and called the shooting an “isolated incident.”

The victim, Anthony Zecca, was the stepgrandson of Duane Chapman, per TMZ. The alleged shooter, Gregory Zecca, is the son of Duane Chapman’s wife, Francie Chapman.

“We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony,” Duane and Francie Chapman shared in a statement with TMZ. They also asked the public to give them privacy.

The Chapmans reportedly made Marco Island their home after getting married in 2021, according to The Naples Daily News. The pair became an active part of the community and apparently love meeting and interacting with fans.

Sami Rahman, owner of Sami’s Pizza and Grill, told the newspaper in 2023 that the couple became regulars at his restaurant.

“We recognized him on the spot because he was a very unique guy; whenever he comes in, people love to talk to him,” Rahman said at the time. “(He) deals with a lot of people, people having dinner, people taking pictures with him. He’s always happy to take pictures and talk to people.”

Duane Chapman posted on Instagram following Anthony’s death but made no mention of the shooting. Fans shared condolences with the family.

“Sorry Dog and Francie about the death of your grandson,” a fan wrote.

“So sorry about the loss in your family. Sending love and prayers to you, Francie and her son,”‘ another fan prayed.

“I just read about your step grandson – I’m so sorry for your loss,” someone else commented.

Others sent simple messages of love, like this person who wrote, “Dog, we love you from my family.”
