A 64-year-old man who told his family he planned to hike a slot canyon remains missing, Utah officials reported.
Howard Stone’s vehicle was found parked at the Little Wild Horse Canyon trailhead August 10, Goblin Valley State Park officials noted in an August 13 news release.
He told his family he planned to hike the canyon after playing golf, son Brandon Stone told KSTU. A text to his father that Saturday afternoon received no reply.
When he confirmed his sisters also had not heard from their father, he called the Emery County Sheriff’s Office the next morning, KSTU said.
“We have done searches of the canyons and surrounding areas without luck,” state parks officials shared in the release.
Son-in-law Trevor Dahl told KTVX the family is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to finding the missing hiker.

The father is an avid hiker and adventurer.
“He’s always up for an adventure, always looking for something fun to do,” Brandon Stone told KSTU about his father, describing him as an avid hiker. “He’s a good dad, he’s a good grandpa and we want to bring him home.”
Authorities ask anyone with information to call the Emery County Sheriff's Office at 435-381-2112.
Goblin Valley State Park is about a 225-mile drive southeast from Salt Lake City.
