Having your child suddenly go missing is every parent’s worst nightmare, and it’s one that the family of Georgia teen Amy Reidling is facing. The girl suddenly disappeared from the home she shares with her dad and stepmom, leaving no trace of where she could have gone. Now, her parents are speaking out and expressing fears that she may have been taken. Although they are still piecing together what could have happened, they believe it was something truly out of her control.
According to a Facebook post from the DeKalb County Police Department, 14-year-old Amy Reidling was last seen at her dad’s home in Decatur, about 2 p.m. September 21, 2025. The teen is 5’1” and weighs 105 pounds. She has brown hair with bangs and brown eyes.
“The investigation is ongoing and active,” a department spokesperson told People. “As with any missing child case in our community, our officers are searching diligently to bring Amy home.”
Amy’s stepmother, Ginny Rutledge, was the one who discovered the teen was missing, she said in an interview with 11 Alive. They had been together earlier in the day to shop for accessories for the homecoming dance the girl was planning to attend.
“I opened the door, and she was gone. Tore the house apart, called 911 at 9:15,” Rutledge said. “No one’s messages have been read. Every time we call, it goes straight to voicemail.” The woman described the experience as a “nightmare,” saying she feels like she’s a “cliché.”
Since Amy’s disappearance, her dad and stepmom have hired a private investigator to help locate her. They believe the teen may have met someone online who coached her on how to leave home.
“I’m positive that she was taken,” Rutledge told 11 Alive. “There’s a lot she doesn’t know, and especially in a big city like Atlanta.”
During the interview, the stepmother shared that their community has rallied to help find Amy. “Everybody’s been stomping the streets, putting up fliers,” she said.
Addressing her stepdaughter directly, she told the girl “we all want you back.”
“Amy, we love you, we miss you. We want you here. That’s why you’re here. We wanted you here. You’re my girl, you’re my person. I miss you. Please come back,” the woman begged. “Please let us know you’re okay if you can. Be safe, fight hard.”
Luckily, an update posted by the police department indicates the teen has been found, although no other information was provided. “UPDATE: Thank you all for sharing, Amy has been located safely!” the Facebook post reads.
