9-Month-Old Baby Becomes an Orphan When Young Couple Dies in Horrific Drunk Driving Crash

A young couple had their whole lives ahead of them when an unthinkable tragedy struck. Jacob Hahn, 24, and Savannah Harding, 22, of Elnore, Ohio, died December 9, when an alleged drunk driver crashed into their car and killed them. They leave behind a young son, Beckett, who will grow up with only his family's memories of his mom and dad.

Samantha Hammons, 55, from Toledo, was allegedly driving a Kia Soul that crashed into Hahn and Harding's Ford Fusion. Their car reportedly spun out of control and went the wrong way near Fremont Pike and Lemoyne Road, where it was hit by another vehicle, according to ABC 13.

No one else was seriously hurt.

The New York Post reported that Hammons' two adult daughters were in the back seat of the Kia Soul but were not seriously injured. The occupants of the Dodge Journey that crashed into the couple's car were also not hurt. Everyone escaped with minor injuries aside from Hahn and Harding, who reportedly perished at the scene.

The couple was starting a life together.

Family and friends paid tribute online to the young couple, who reportedly planned to marry in June.

Brooke Johnson wrote: "It's taken awhile for me to type this up because my emotions are all over the place.. I'm so sad, but mostly angry. Angry that an irresponsible and reckless woman took away the lives of two very young people who truly just started living theirs. My heart is completely broken for sweet Beckett, because he will never get to know how amazing his parents were, and how much they loved him!"

Others shared the sentiment and love for baby Beckett.

"Oh god we got a call this morning not a call to be expected!" another loved one posted on Facebook. "Friends of ours have passed away last night in a car accident I'm so so sorry to the Family's they both were amazing and they were such amazing parents I'm just in such shock I don't even know what to say ! Rest in peace you to will never ever be forgotten and your Beckett will be forever loved by Family and friends."

Hahn and Harding were seemingly the perfect match.

Their obituaries paid tribute to their love for each other.

Hahn's obituary reads in part, "Family was important to Jacob, with those that knew him best saying that he lived his life for his fiancée Savannah and their child Beckett. In addition to his Family, Jacob also had a lot of love for his Corman family and his friends. He had an infectious giggle that was known to bring others joy."

Harding's obituary shared a similar message. "Savannah, young in years, was a proud free-spirit that was looking for love and found it in Jacob Hahn. It was the love shared between Savannah and Jacob that, made her the great mother she was, giving Beckett the best life," the obituary reads.

The community has rallied together to help little Beckett.

Although his parents are gone, family and friends have stepped up with a number of fundraisers to help support him, including a GoFundMe.

A message on the page reads in part, "On December 9, the lives of two wonderful parents were taken in a tragic car accident. Baby Becket, who is only 9 months old will have to grow up without the support, love, and guidance of his parents due to the careless actions of the person who caused the accident."

It has raised $3,000 of a $5,000 goal so far.
