Family of 5 Dead After Head-On Collision With Another Vehicle Caused Their Vehicle To Burst Into Flames

A family of five is dead following a vehicle accident in Colorado. The family included two parents and their three young kids. Details of the accident are still emerging, but it was the result of a head-on collision. Both vehicles involved burst into flames due to the nature of the crash. All five members of the family died at the scene. Now, their extended family is left to grieve and to try to make sense of a senseless tragedy.

About 7:15 a.m. August 4, 2025, a Ford F-150 pickup and a GMC Yukon SUV collided on Colorado Highway 9, Colorado State Patrol troopers shared, according to KUSA. The Ford was traveling north when the driver went into the southbound lane, hitting the Yukon. Both vehicles caught fire.

“The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to become completely engulfed in flames,” the coroner’s office explained in a statement to People. “First responders arrived quickly but despite heroic efforts, the family did not survive.”

On August 6, the coroner’s office identified the family of five. They are 34-year-old Manuel Cabral-Torres, his wife, 30-year-old Andrea Banuelos-Salazar, and their three children: 12-year-old Maria Cabral-Banuelos, 5-year-old Manuel Cabral-Banuelos, and 2-year-old Andres Cabral-Banuelos.

“The Grand County Coroner’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the surviving loved ones, friends, and the entire community. The loss of an entire family is an unspeakable tragedy, and our hearts are with all who are grieving during this incredibly difficult time,” read a statement shared by Denver 7.

According to state troopers, the 25-year-old man driving the Ford was taken to a hospital via helicopter with life-threatening injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

West Grand School District 1-JT posted about the accident on social media. “This is a heart-breaking tragedy, and we are here to support those who have been directly impacted, along with extended family, friends, and our community as best we can during this difficult time,” officials wrote.

“My son, his wife, my grandchildren — it’s all very painful,” Manuel Cabral Torres’ mother, Maria Torres Reyes, told CBS News Colorado. “I love them so much. I’m just so sad.” She is traveling from Mexico to Colorado, as she has done many times, for the funeral.

A cousin of Manuel Cabral Torres started a GoFundMe account to help the family pay for funeral expenses.
