An 8-year-old girl in Florida is being hailed a hero after stabbing her maternal grandmother. The woman, Serpil Adams, who seems to be estranged from her daughter and family, showed up out of nowhere at their home with one thing on her mind. But when the little girl saw what was about to happen, she jumped into action to save her mom’s life. Her quick thinking had the exact effect she hoped it did. Now, the grandmother is in jail and can’t have any contact with the family.
Officers from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home in Orange Park about a disturbance around 3 p.m. on November 17, 2025, the office shared in a news release. “The caller, later determined to be the victim, could be heard yelling for an individual to leave her home,” the release read.
Upon arrival, police learned that the victim, who has not been named, was involved in a physical altercation with her mother, 62-year-old Adams. The older woman apparently showed up at her daughter’s home “uninvited.”
At the time of Adams’ arrival, the woman was home with her two children. Adams entered the home through an unlocked door and attacked her daughter with a serrated utility knife, the release shared. The 8-year-old girl rushed to her mother’s defense and grabbed a kitchen knife, using it to stab Adams in the upper arm. After being stabbed, the woman left in a car. Neither the woman nor the girl was harmed.

According to an affidavit for an arrest warrant obtained by Law & Crime, when the deputies arrived, “they observed blood on the sidewalk.” That wasn’t the only blood they found at the scene, apparently. “The storm drain was also in the direct path of the blood drops leading from the residence to the suspect’s vehicle,” the affidavit stated.
Police determined that the car Adams used to escape belonged to another woman. They contacted the car’s owner, which led to them finding Adams in Jacksonville. She was staying there with a friend.
“The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office located Adams inside the friend’s residence, and she was taken into custody without incident,” the release read.
Arrest forms show that Adams invoked her Miranda rights and requested a lawyer after her arrest, Law & Crime reported. She was charged with attempted second-degree murder and is being held at Clay County Jail on a bond slightly over $500,000.
Adams appeared in court for a hearing on November 18. There, she was served with a no-contact order if she manages to post bail. She is scheduled to appear in court again on December 16.
