Hatch Baby Recalls Nearly 1 Million Sound Machine Power Adaptors Because of Shock Hazard

Sound machines are a wonderful tool many parents use to help their babies and young children (and themselves) get much-needed sleep. The gentle nature sounds and soothing music can mean the difference between a cranky kid and a well-rested little one. Plenty of caregivers swear by them.

Like any consumer product, there can be design flaws resulting in unintended injury. That is exactly why Hatch Baby recently recalled nearly 1 million of its sound machine adaptors. Let's take a closer look at the details of the safety recall and what folks should do if they own one.

The recent recall impacts Hatch Rest 1st generation devices, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on July 3. Specifically, it's for the power adapters made by Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. Hatch issued the voluntary recall in partnership with the safety commission "after learning that the white housing of these power adapters can come off when removing them from the power outlet, leaving the power prongs exposed and posing a shock hazard to consumers."

There have been two reports of consumers experiencing a 'minor electrical shock.'

As the safety commission reported, Hatch has received 19 reports of the plastic housing surrounding the AC power adapter coming off. This included two reports of consumers who experienced a minor electrical shock.

Here's how to know if your product is included in the recall.

Impacted power adapters were issued with some of Hatch's Rest 1st generation devices, mostly sold between 2019 and 2022. The power adapters have the model number CYAP05 050100U. Once the adaptor is replaced, the sound machine is safe to continue using.

Hatch will ship a replacement power adaptor to affected customers.

As part of this recall, the company will offer a free replacement power cord for any customer who has the device. For those affected, email [email protected] with a clear photo of the power adaptor to get started in the process for a replacement.

Hatch assured customers it is no longer sourcing power adaptors from the company.

"The company is pursuing this recall voluntarily as part of its commitment to consumer safety and incident prevention," Hatch shared on its website. "Hatch is no longer sourcing power adapters from Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co., and all current power adapter manufacturing partners have exceeded industry safety standards."
