Mom Sees Man in Ski Mask Flee Her Home & Finds Out He Was Inside Choking Her 10-Year-Old Girl

A Michigan neighborhood has been rocked amid a series of home invasions that seem to be targeting young girls. One family is the latest of four known families who have been subjected to the masked suspect climbing into their windows. Currently, the suspect remains at large, but local police are committed to finding him.

Meanwhile, authorities are urging people in the area to be mindful of keeping their windows open, as the person is using open windows to enter the homes.

Mom Monica Smith was awoken around 4 a.m. February 4, 2025, to the sounds of her 10-year-old daughter’s screams. She believed the girl was having a nightmare, but what had actually happened was even worse.

“I’m like, Kaylee, what’s wrong? She didn’t say – she kept on screaming,” she told WDIV. “I see a guy just shoot out from her room, and then Kaylee started yelling that the guy was choking her.”

The man was wearing a ski mask and had a knife on him. Smith explained that she saw him running down the stairs of her home, her daughter’s screaming having spooked him.

According to investigators, Smith is the latest victim of a home invasion spree terrorizing a Pontiac, Michigan, neighborhood. The suspect, who is still at large, seems to be targeting homes with young girls. To get inside, he is using unlocked doors and windows.

“He took the screen out, pulled it up, and my furniture was pushed up,” Smith revealed to WDIV, explaining how the man gained entry into her home.

This home invasion is one of four that have happened since the end of December. Each time, the suspect enters the home through an unlocked window and targets a young girl in the home.

Mom of four Shauntay Pryor experienced a similar home invasion back in October, only blocks from Smith’s home. In October, Pryor said her 15-year-old daughter saw someone jump out of her unlocked bedroom window. That person returned in January.

“He made her undress, take off her clothing and was threatening to kill [her] and told her that he would stab her and she said she felt uncomfortable,” Pryor told WXYZ. “When he started to take his pants down, she started fighting him.”

In the confrontation, her daughter was choked and stabbed in the hand. The man only stopped because another child in the home noticed the violence and screamed.

Both mothers rightfully said they no longer feel comfortable in their homes. Smith isn’t currently staying in her home and has plans to move.

Police are on the hunt to try to apprehend the suspect.

“We’re investigating more incidents,” Lt. Sam Marzban with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office told WDIV. “We’re also looking back on other home invasion incidents we have to see if they connect the cases.”

“We’re gonna catch you. It’s just a matter of time,” Sgt. Sam James added.

According to investigators, the suspect is between 17 and 21 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet tall, with a thin build, wearing a ski mask and dark-colored clothing.
