What to Know
Christmas babies know that the “Most Wonderful Time of the Year” is not necessarily the best time to celebrate a birthday. With so many other festivities happening during the holiday season, it’s easy to feel overlooked. One influencer mom decided she wanted to avoid this entirely, so she allegedly “changed” her daughter’s birthday. Influencer Indy Clinton explained in a video that her third child was born “too close to Christmas,” so she decided to “change” her birthday to December 12 instead.
Some people with Christmas birthdays actually liked the idea. But other people in the comments were convinced that Indy doesn’t know what “birthday” actually means and spelled it out for her: “a birthday is literally the day you were born.”
People couldn’t tell whether Indy was being serious.
Of course, there’s lots of content on social media that is not all that serious, and “rage bait” and more outlandish stories tend to get more attention. At the same time, influencers have been known to do some pretty unusual things, so some people commented on Indy’s video to ask if she was joking.
In the video, Indy started by saying that she was going to ask for her followers’ opinions, but then she ended up making the decision on her own. Speaking of one of her daughters, Indy said, “We’ve decided to change her birthday to the 12th of December. She was actually just too close to Christmas for my liking, and I just thought, going forward, she’s never going to know. We have officially changed it.”
According to Indy, people don’t need to know the day she was actually born.
Sure, her daughter wasn’t actually born on December 12 — but Indy doesn’t think other people really need to know that. “I know…but nobody else needs to know,” Indy said. She went on to say that she thinks doing this was a great decision that will allow her daughter to get more attention on her birthday, and she can’t figure out why more parents haven’t done the same.
“Genuinely, I cannot think of a reason why this would be bad,” Indy said. “I don’t know why more people don’t do it. Genuinely. Am I crazy?” She added that she doesn’t actually think she’s crazy. Instead, she thinks “it’s really smart, and nobody else has thought of it.”
But some people were worried about how this would impact her daughter.

Assuming that Indy really did “change” her daughter’s birthday, people in the comments worried that the date change would later confuse the child. “That isn’t smart,” one person commented. “Just make the day special for her?? Gonna give her an identity crisis when she finds out her birthday isn’t her birthday.”
Someone else wrote, “If I grew up knowing I had celebrated a different day to when I was born I would feel sad I don’t know why.” In addition to emotional issues, some people anticipated logistical challenges as well. “Do not do this Indy 🤦🏽♀️she’s gonna have to fill out official forms when she’s older and not know her freaking bday 😭” another person added.
Many others were hung up on the fact that you can’t just change the day your child was born. “Ummm no wtf your birthday is the day you were born you can’t just change the date for your convenience?!?” one of them wrote.
Some people actually liked the idea though.
The idea was especially popular among the Christmas babies in the comments. “As someone born on the 22nd Dec, please PLEASE change it!!! These d— combined presents will be the death of me 🤡” one TikTok user commented. Someone else agreed, writing, “As someone born on the 28th Dec, she will Thankyou. No one could come to my parties as a kid cause they were on Xmas [holidays] and I always got combined presents. It’s my villain origin story.”
Apparently, some parents have tried similar strategies before. “I know someone who was 27th of December and her parents growing up told her it was 27th of October so she could have a celebration. She loves it,” another person claimed.
In her caption, Indy wrote an apology to all of the Christmas babies whose parents never thought to change their birthdays. “If you were born close to Christmas and your parents were never forward thinking like me, I’m so sorry,” she wrote.
