A mother in Texas is mourning the loss of her son after he was hit by a car and killed. The crash also caused injury to the boy’s twin sister and another child. Jose Ledesma was leaving school with his mother and the other children, when a car seemingly came out of nowhere, hitting them. Each of the other children has serious injuries that required hospitalization. But both of the adults were able to walk away with lesser injuries.
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, 9-year-old Jose was leaving Felix Botello Elementary School in Dallas with his twin sister, mother, and another girl, WFAA reported. As they were crossing the street, they were hit by a truck.
The boy’s death was confirmed by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office. According to Dallas PD Assistant Chief Catrina Shead, the other two children, a 9-year-old girl and an 11-year-old girl, were in “critical but stable condition.” Both the elderly driver and the other adult were listed in stable condition.
According to Shead, the police are currently investigating the incident as an accident. They are saying they don’t believe that speed was an issue in the collision.
Deyaneira Ledesma, the boy’s mother, told NBC 5 that she was with the children at the time of the incident. She admitted that they were not using the crosswalk. The mother also claimed she didn’t see the car coming before it hit them. She told the news outlet that her daughter suffered a broken leg and hip.
“We don’t have any speed bumps; we have one crossing guard, but we do need some change,” Felix Botello Elementary School parent Cynthia Rocha told NBC 5. She also said that the community is coming together to support the Ledesma family.
“We cannot say that we understand what she’s going through, you know, but we can definitely feel compassionate,” Rocha told Fox4 News.
The family is using the site Carson’s Village to collect donations for a funeral service. Deyaneira Ledesma called her son her angel, her greatest love, and her everything when speaking to NBC 5.
