A teen girl in Texas is maintaining her innocence after she was arrested in connection with her younger brother’s death. Kara Walker is accused of causing harm to her brother alongside her boyfriend, who was arrested earlier this year. Even though both the girl and her boyfriend have been arrested in the boy’s death, neither are facing murder charges. Evidence shows the young boy was continually abused over days and the abuse resulted in his death, but details about exactly what happened and what comes next remain unclear.
Walker, 17, was arrested August 27, 2025, after allegedly abusing her 8-year-old brother, Fox 26 reported. The abuse reportedly led to his death. Her boyfriend, 18-year-old Nolan Stallings, was arrested in March in connection with Charles’ death.
Both teens have been charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury. Walker’s bond has been set at $100,000, while Stallings’ bond has been set at $1 million.
Even though it is believed the boy died from abuse at the hands of his sister and her boyfriend, they aren’t being charged with murder, according to ABC 13. Prosecutors said they aren’t ready to release the reasons why they haven’t filed more serious charges.
A spokesperson from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said Walker and Stallings brought her brother to the hospital on February 10 after he was found unresponsive. Five days later, the boy died. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Stallings claimed the boy fell and was injured, but hospital staff didn’t fully believe the story.
Hospital staff told investigators that the boy’s injuries were consistent with abuse. According to court documents, he was “abused and tortured over several days. The injuries that resulted from abuse caused the complainant’s death,” ABC 13 reported. An autopsy revealed his cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Days after her arrest, Walker spoke with KPRC from Harris County Jail. Throughout the interview, she and her parents maintained that she didn’t do anything that led to the death of her brother, Charles. She also alleged that Stallings had been abusive to her but that she never told police.
“I’m being falsely charged. I wouldn’t do anything to harm my brother,” she said. Walker also claimed she didn’t hit her brother with anything that would have caused the blunt force trauma. She gave details about the interview she had with police.
“They found a note in my phone that I didn’t write and because it was in my phone they’re saying that I wrote it, and they found text messages. About me saying that I had made my brother stand in the corner even though I didn’t make him stand in the corner,” the teen said.
Her parents, Christian West and Cecil Walker, are supporting their daughter. West called the whole situation “a nightmare that we can’t wake up from.”
The parents found out their son was injured after getting a call from the hospital. “They just compared it to a car accident. 70 to 80 mile an hour car crash with an unrestrained victim,” Cecil Walker said, per KPRC. He doesn’t believe that his daughter, who is 5’2” and weighs about 100 pounds, could cause that kind of harm.
In the meanwhile, they want their son to be remembered as “an amazing little kid.”
“He would give you anything. He just wanted to see you smile and be happy,” West shared.
