After 30 Years, Dad of 4 Discovers the Owner of His Favorite Bakery Is His Long-Lost Mother

Life is full of coincidences. We love a serendipitous moment. But every once in a while, something happens that is more than that. The stars and planets align in just the right way to bring two people together. The impact is so great that we have to acknowledge that it’s more than happenstance. It’s a wink from the universe. Perhaps its fate. Maybe it’s orchestration from the Divine.

Whatever it may be, this force was certainly at work when a mother and son were reunited after more than three decades.

Vamarr Hunter started visiting a bakery called Give Me Some Sugah 10 years ago.

Vamarr Hunter was a repeat visitor of Give Me Some Sugah bakery in Chicago, ABC 7 reported. He began visiting the restaurant about 10 years ago. Hunter was a fan of the lemon pound cake, the lemon bars, and the chocolate cookies. The South Shore resident said he felt like home in the shop. He didn’t realize the extent of that feeling or that it would lead him to his biological mother.

One day, he got an unexpected call from the bakery.

The owner of the shop, Lenore Lindsey, got pregnant when she was 17 years old and gave her son up for adoption. She decided to leave the adoption open in case her child wanted to contact her when he got older.

Fifteen years ago, at the age of 35, Hunter learned that he was adopted and wanted to meet his birth mother. He did some genetic testing to find her. Shortly after, he got a call from his favorite bakery, after his bio mom learned of the test results.

“I said ‘Give Me Some Sugah’? I didn’t order anything. What is this?” he recalled as he saw the saved number on his phone. “That’s when we started screaming,” Lindsey recounted. “And I started crying on the phone.”

'It further strengthens my faith,' Hunter said of their reunion.

Today, the two are more than mother and son. They’re business partners. When they first met, Lindsey was having some health issues and Hunter stepped in, working in the bakery, according to People. These days, Lindsey is semi-retired and often works with Hunter at her bakery. The two say the reunion has been a blessing. “It’s been a great experience,” Hunter said. “It further strengthens my faith.”

As for Lindsey, she calls their reconnection the most joyful time in her life. She said the connection with Hunter was instant. “When I called him, that connection was so immediate. I can’t even explain it. It was just like everything in my heart just broke open,” she said.

The two are making the most of the time they have.

In addition to finding a mother, Hunter also met his siblings and other family members, and Lindsey got to meet her grandchildren as Hunter is a father of four. With ties to this side of his family now restored, Hunter wants to keep the bakery in the family. He hopes to pass it along to one of his children.

In the meantime, he’s enjoying the time he’s been able to spend with his mom. “You can’t make up for time and days gone by,” Hunter said. “What you can do is properly utilize the time that you have.”
