Dad Sent Pics of Missing 1-Year-Old Kahleb Collins Hung by Rope to Mom: ‘He Just Looks Wore Out’

An Alabama mother allegedly knew her husband fatally abused their toddler but did not intervene or try to help the child. On December 7, 2024, Steven Bradly Collins, 40, and RyLeigh Collins, 2, died in a single-car crash in Fayette County. Collins’ fiancĂ©e, 22-year-old Wendy Pamela Jan Bailey, 22, survived but had serious injuries. As news of the accident spread, a family member reportedly contacted police with a tip. No one has seen the couple’s other child, 1-year-old Kahleb Collins, since September 2024.

During the investigation, police determined that Kahleb had died, and charging documents obtained by Alabama.com state his father killed him and his mother did nothing to protect him. Now, Bailey faces multiple felonies in connection with the innocent child’s death.

Steven Collins reportedly abused Kahleb on multiple occasions.

Per court documents, the father abused his son in July, and Bailey knew about it but did not report the abuse, Alabama.com reported. The father allegedly sent Collins a message and said he was going to “kill Khaleb.” He followed the message with photos of the toddler “hanging from a loft with a rope with blood present on his body.”

Kahleb apparently went limp.

In another message, Collins sent another text that said the child wouldn’t move and “I’m so sorry,” per Alabama.com. The father then sent a message that said, “He moving.” Bailey replied, “He just looks wore out and tire (sic) and hurt hopefully that’s all.”

The mother allegedly doesn’t know where her son’s body is.

According to the charging documents, Bailey told investigators that after Kahleb died, “his body was placed into a bag and stored in an outside storage building for a brief period prior to disposal at an unknown location.”

Police arrested Bailey in connection with both of her children’s deaths.

An investigation determined RyLeigh Collins was not properly restrained in a car seat at the time of her death. During her interview with police, the mother allegedly showed little remorse. She faces multiple felonies, including abuse of a corpse, aggravated child abuse, first-degree domestic violence, and criminally negligent homicide, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Police also arrested Bailey’s father in connection with Kahleb’s death.

According to court documents, 55-year-old John Elton Bailey did not report Kahleb missing and is in jail on a $100,000 bond, Alabama.com reported. He allegedly “failed to report a missing child by delaying to make or failing to cause to be made the report with willful and reckless disregard for the safety of the child and the child suffered serious bodily harm or death, to wit: physical injuries to the child and the child was removed from the home and taken to an unknown location and no report was made by any resident of the home.”
