An Egyptian mom is using TikTok as a way to help her find her missing son. The boy was allegedly taken from her by her ex-husband three years ago. In May 2024, the woman found out that her ex, who had been abusive toward her during their marriage, is a convicted serial killer. The man was convicted in Egypt of killing three women.
Despite him being behind bars, the mom has not been able to reunite with her son. Upon his arrest, her ex-husband told authorities that she was dead, giving his own mother custody. Now, the woman is desperately using every resource she has to find her boy.

The woman shared her story in a TikTok video.
The mom, Lobna Yakout, who goes by the name Elwhy on TikTok, shared a series of videos detailing her quest to find her missing son, Zayn Karim.
In the video, she explains that her ex-husband, Karim Selim, is an Egyptian serial killer who has been convicted of killing three women, and and is expected to be hanged soon. When he was arrested, he told officials the boy’s mother was dead, allowing his own mother to retain custody of the boy.
She has been trying to regain custody of her son for years.
“He tried to kill me many times,” the woman says of her ex. She claims that he also tried to kill her sister “many times” before getting caught with the bodies of three women in a “torture chamber.” After explaining that his capture was recent, she explained that he kidnapped their son three years ago. Whenever she tried to get her son back, he would threaten her life.
Speaking with People, she explained that her ex once waited outside her home with a knife for four days, prompting her to leave the country.
She is doing everything she can to fight for her son.
In her TikTok, the mom explains that she filed all necessary paperwork with the authorities to gain full custody of her son, even though he was “kidnapped” by his paternal grandmother.
According to the woman, she has “every single right” to her son, but she “can’t find” the grandmother. She explained that the grandmother could be in either Egypt or the US, and that she needs to do everything she can to get her story out into the world.

She has made series of videos sharing additional details.
In a follow-up video, the mom shared more details about her son, including a picture of him. She called him “beautiful, handsome, kind,” and “amazing.”
“He’s the type of child that holds the door open for you, treats you like a queen,” she added. In addition to naming the boy, she also named his grandmother, stating she might be in either Michigan or Egypt.
She longs for the day she will be reunited with her son.
During her interview with People, she described the last exchange she had with Zayn before his dad took him. “If you’re taken from me, find me,” she told the boy. “That’s the last thing I said to him.”
Since the government has been unhelpful, she is relying on social media and word-of-mouth to help find her boy. She told the outlet that when they are reunited, she plans to “take him to the beach” for some “mom-Zayn time.” She said, “That’s our thing, we love the beach.”
In an effort to keep herself afloat while she searches for her son, the mom started a GoFundMe.
