A Queens, New York, mom is facing murder charges after her son was found dead in their home. Nicole Boodhai was also found injured with self-inflicted slash wounds on her wrists. Details are still emerging about how the boy died, but thus far it has been reported that an obvious injury such as blunt force trauma has been ruled out. Even though the mom was found with her wrists slashed, the child was not stabbed, but an exact cause of death is being investigated. While Boodhai was hospitalized, she was arrested in connection with the death of her son.
New York City Police responded to a call of assault about 1:30 p.m. on December 29, 2025, ABC 7 reported. When they arrived at the home, they found Boodhai, 28, inside a bathtub with her son, 15-month-old Charlie Ramraykha.
Boodhai was found with slash wounds to her wrist. Charlie was unconscious and covered in his mother’s blood.
Police said that after the killing, Boodhai reportedly told the boy’s father what happened. That’s when authorities arrived and took her to the hospital.
According to People, both were taken to Jamaica Hospital, where the boy was declared dead and his mother was listed in stable condition. A cause of death has not been given for the boy. There were no signs of blunt force trauma or stab wounds.
A formal determination of cause of death will be conducted by the New York’s chief medical examiner.
“A young child, it’s just unfathomable. I’m a single mom of three that just moved here in September and this is unfathomable,” a neighbor told ABC 7.
Another neighbor told the outlet that prior to the incident, they heard a baby crying. “We just heard the crying, you know the noise. We just heard it in the morning,” Miah Mannan said.
A different neighbor told ABC 7 that Boodhai was “pretty quiet.” The person added that the mother would “speak but other than that, I don’t know her personally.”
Police officials said they found pills and a blade that appeared to be a box cutter at the scene.
Boodhai was charged with murder and endangering the welfare of a child on December 30, NY 1 reported. The Queens District Attorney’s Office planned to arraign her the same day.
