A couple in Lakewood, Washington, faces murder charges in the death of their baby. Alyssa Jade Vanderbeck and Mark Anthony Labaco Clamor may not have fully intended to kill their not even 2-month-old son, but their mishandling of the baby absolutely led to his death, authorities say. Clamor, who is bearing the brunt of the blame, admitted he was stressed and overwhelmed as the parent of a new baby. Caring for a baby is exhausting, there’s no doubt about that, and that stress can lead you to make bad decisions. But no decision made by the couple is more concerning than the young mom making TikTok videos from the hospital.
Hospital staff quickly knew something wasn’t right.

Lakewood Police Department officers went to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital on March 5, 2026, after a social worker reported a possible abuse case involving a 7-week-old infant, King 5 reported. The infant, referred to as N.C. in court documents, had been brought to the hospital the day before after his father, 21-year-old Mark Clamor, called 911, saying the baby had become unresponsive.
Doctors found serious injuries that included subdural hemorrhages, anoxic brain injury, retinal hemorrhages, and possible healing rib fractures, investigators said. A doctor specializing in abuse intervention said the injuries were “consistent with abusive head trauma,” per King 5. The baby boy died on March 9.
When speaking with detectives, Clamor said he was stressed because of unemployment, finances, housing concerns, and the stress of caring for a newborn, KOMO reported. On the morning of the incident, he claimed, the baby got fussy during a feeding and he picked him up, making a forward-and-backward “jerking motion.”
He added that the baby’s head “jerked back pretty hard” before he brought the baby to his chest. Later, Clamor admitted he had handled his son a little too roughly.
The young parents allegedly delayed getting their baby help.
The couple believed the baby had fallen asleep and went to shower, taking him into the bathroom with them. When they got out, the baby seemed “abnormal” and was making grunting noises. Believing he may have been constipated, the couple filmed videos of him, sending them to family.
Investigators noted that in the video, the baby appeared to stop breathing. They believe it was about an hour between when the parents noticed something was wrong and when they called 911.
While talking with investigators, Vanderbeck, 19, said she and Clamor tried to physically stimulate the baby, which included shaking him while in a panic. When asked if she believed that made his condition worse, this was her response: “Like, he could have had minor shaken baby and then it got worse cause we were so scared?” she asked, per King 5.
An autopsy took place on March 10 and 11. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office found intracranial and spinal hemorrhaging as well as rib fractures, KOMO reported. According to the medical examiner, the tentative cause of death is homicide due to abusive head trauma.
The baby’s mother was allegedly making content in the hospital.

Days after the baby’s death, investigators found a TikTok video posted by Vanderbeck on March 8, People reported. In the video, “she is seen slowly dancing in the bathroom of N.C.’s hospital room with what can be described as ‘upbeat’ music playing in the background,” the court documents stated.
A Lakewood police officer who observed the couple as their baby lay dying “found their demeanor to be unusual considering the gravity of the suspected offense and the condition their child was in,” according to court documents obtained by People.
The couple appeared in court on March 12. Clamor was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, while Alyssa Vanderbeck was charged with one count of second-degree murder, KOMO reported. Their bail was set at $1 million each.
