Parents are the people a child should trust the most. Tragically, mothers and fathers are the perpetrators of abuse and even death on a regular basis. And recently, a mom was found guilty of murdering her 1-year-old daughter and then dumping her body in a trash can.
Megan Boswell, 23, of Sullivan County, Tennessee, was recently convicted of 19 charges related to her daughter’s 2020 death. She was already sentenced to three terms of life in prison, with more sentencing to come. And the details of the toddler’s brutal demise are truly sickening.

The mom was found guilty of murdering her 1-year-old daughter in February 2025.
On February 13, Boswell was found guilty of 19 charges. They included first-degree murder, two counts of felony murder, child abuse, child neglect, abuse of a corpse, and 11 counts of false reporting, WCYB reported. She was sentenced to life in prison for the three murder charges, with more sentencing set for May 22.
In December 2019, Evelyn disappeared.
In December 2019, the 15-month-old disappeared. She was not reported missing, however, until February 2020. Boswell was eventually arrested and charged with false reporting after giving police “a number of conflicting statements,” according to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, The Charlotte Observer reported.
The 15-month-old’s body was discovered on a family member’s property.
In March 2020, detectives discovered a body believed to be Evelyn’s on a family member’s property. Her body was wrapped in a blanket and aluminum foil inside a trash can inside a “playhouse.” An autopsy confirmed the body was Evelyn’s. Additionally, DNA testing revealed fingerprints on the blanket, foil, and trash can were Boswell’s, the Miami Herald reported.

On February 13, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director David Rausch issued a statement about Boswell’s conviction.
“Five years ago, we began working alongside the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and the Office of the 2nd Judicial District Attorney General to pursue justice for Baby Evelyn,” he said via X. “Today, justice was finally served.”
Evelyn’s case inspired a new Tennessee law.
In 2021, a law inspired by Evelyn’s case was unanimously passed in Tennessee. Evelyn Boswell’s Law requires parents to report a child missing within 24 hours. If the law had been active during the Boswell investigation, officers would have had a charge to arrest Boswell much sooner.
