Mom of 4, Including Triplet Babies, Forced To Bring Her Kids to Jury Duty

Jury duty is just a part of life, right? It's sort of like death and taxes: No one really wants to think about it until they absolutely must. And why, oh why, do those darn summonses show up at the most inconvenient times? You will undoubtedly have a planned vacation, a special birthday outing, or need to lug a million kids with you. OK, not a million, but as one mom showed us, her kids were a handful the day she headed to court.

Torrey Scow is a mom of four. And she's that special kind of supermom. She has four young kids, and three of those darlings are triplet babies! We raise our sippy cups to you, momma. But Torrey recently got a jury summons and thought it would be no problem to do her civic duty. She was hilariously wrong.

No sitter means no other choice than to drag the kids along.

Torrey shared a video of her adventure to jury selection with all four of her children in tow. She and her husband, Kory, share 18-month-old triplets Lexi, Zoey, and Lincoln, and a 5-year-old little girl, Emory, People reported.

Torrey usually has an extra set of hands, but her husband had to work and the sitter was busy, plus skipping out is a $1,000 fine. She had no choice. She certainly thought the courts would take pity on her due to her lack of child care options, but that was a no-go.

"I even sent them a picture because I wanted them to know how hard it is for me to find a babysitter, because the only person I have that can handle all four kids is either myself or my husband, or my mom," she told People.

She marched into that jury selection without a care in the world.

Who wouldn't take pity on a mom with four kids, three babies no less, and say, "Hit the road, Momma!"

Instead, much to her surprise, they wanted to see what Torrey was really made of. So she had to stick around for two and a half hours, she shared in her Instagram video.

She explains that she and Kory haven't even ventured to church with all four of their kids, so this was indeed an adventure.

That courtroom was 'dead silent,' aside from Torrey's crew.

Torrey kept her children as quiet as possible by filling them with snacks. That momma was loaded down with those familiar fishes that have gotten us all out of a jam or two. But as she told People, those only work for so long with babies.

"They start screaming, but they're in this stage where they scream at the top of their lungs. It's not possible to get one baby quiet, let alone three. And my older daughter is so good, just sitting there and trying to help as they throw their bottles on the floor and everyone's looking at us," she told the magazine.

Surely the judge told Torrey and her brood they were dismissed, right?

Nope, not so much. She was genuinely shocked that amid the chaos of her kids – and it is important to note there was a sign on the door barring children under 16 – the judge kept her there and asked all kinds of questions.

She finally made it out, barely.

Torrey gave props to one of the court officers, who gave the kids a bin of toys that she said helped immensely. But to add to the fun, while she was being held up in the courtroom, all three of the babies pooped. Because of course they did. Torrey said it stunk so badly in the courtroom. We think it's a bit of poetic justice.

After she was finally dismissed, she went out to her car and changed some diapers. She also cheered, "But we did it!"

Yes, you did, and we are all impressed.

People in the comments section couldn't believe it.

"been there with one child and I totally agree with you. This lady should be applauded . She's a full time mom with triplets and a young child. I can't believe they kept her there," one person shared.

Parents understood that this is life for a lot of moms.

"She IS the childcare. Moms caring for kids under Kindergarden age should be exempt from jury duty until their kids are older. Childcare is hard to find. It's expensive. She has TRIPLET one year olds and most people would be unable to handle 3 babies and another child. I work in childcare and it's not easy."

Another person joked, writing, "The kids should also have their boxes ticked for their first jury duty summons. They shouldn't be called back until they're like 68."

Torrey, not only did you do it, but you also did it with a lot more patience and grace than many of us ever could. On that first trip to the grocery store with all four kids, tell Kory it's his turn to dodge those little rascals grabbing everything off the shelves and throwing it in the cart. You get a much-deserved day off!
