Mom Says She Uses ChatGPT To ‘Co-Parent’ Her Kids & It’s Changed Her Life

Artificial intelligence and AI assistants like ChatGPT might have scared many of us at one point. But somewhere along the way, many began to embrace the benefits of using these helpers in day-to-day life. For one mom, ChatGPT is so helpful that it’s co-parenting with her. Mom Lilian Schmidt has shared tons of TikTok videos about how to use ChatGPT to help moms with daily life, from making shopping lists to finding the right birthday gifts and writing the cards for her.

Before you start to worry about inter-species relationships between a computer and a human, don’t worry. Lilian’s relationship with ChatGPT does not go beyond asking the AI assistant for help with her daily life.

However, according to the New York Post, Lilian does lean on the app for advice on parenting, which helps take the mental burden off of her. For Lilian, “co-parenting” with ChatGPT has been a game changer.

She says using ChatGPT helped save her from ‘drowning in mom life.

@heylilianschmidt The prompt that made my mom life 10x easier👇 As a full-time working toddler mom, life moves FAST. And even with a loving, supportive partner I still often feel like the default parent. Because the mental load? Mostly mine. Four months ago, I hit a breaking point and was like: „Wouldn’t it be nice for a change if I could just turn my brain off and say things like: „What’s for dinner?“ „What should we get Emma for her birthday?“ „Just tell me what I need to pack for daycare and I’ll do it“ „Oh there’s no grocery list yet? How will I know what to buy?“ That day, I turned ChatGPT into my co-parent – and my life got 10x easier. Now, ChatGPT… 🥘 plans a week of healthy meals my kids will actually eat 🛒 writes the grocery list – sorted by aisle 🎁 finds the perfect birthday gift AND helps me write the card 🎒 creates daycare and travel packing lists I can just tick off 🧘‍♀️ lets me finally turn my brain OFF for a minute and breeeeeathe 😮‍💨 And the best part? Whenever I ask it to something, it just… does. No follow-up questions like „Where do I find that?“ or „Okay, but which one?“ – it just DOES 😅 If you’re drowning in mom life and want a co-parent who never forgets the sunscreen or asks you to write things down, you’ll find the exact prompts in the comments! 🫶 This one’s a game changer, mama ❤️ #coparenting #chatgpt #chatgptformoms #mentalload #workingmom #toddlermom #sahmlife #defaultparent ♬ Manchild – Sabrina Carpenter

Lilian’s TikTok is full of videos where she explains the right prompts to use for different needs as a parent looking for a little extra help. In one video, Lilian says in the description that dealing with the constant mental load as a working mom was wearing on her.

“If you’re drowning in mom life and want a co-parent who never forgets the sunscreen or asks you to write things down, you’ll find the exact prompts in the comments!” Lilian says in the caption. And in that video, she has suggestions on what exactly to ask your own ChatGPT assistant for to get the help you need.

Now, Lilian even has her own “AI Mom Magic Starter Kit” that people can sign up for on her website. In the kit, users get the prompts that Lilian uses that they can simply copy and paste into their own ChatGPT app. Lillian’s kit also includes many of the tips and tricks she uses to get the most out of her digital co-parent.

Despite the help Lilian says she gets from ChatGPT, critics have called her out in the comments sections to claim she is being a lazy mother because she complains about the hard parts of motherhood.

In one video, where Lilian says she used ChatGPT to “lighten” her mental load to help her enjoy the time she has with her kids, someone commented, “Yeah a lot of us don’t complain.”

Another woman commented, “I really thought this was satire, yikes.”

For Lilian, though, using ChatGPT to help her as a mom has changed the way she looks at the AI assistant. She has a partner IRL, but even with the help of a real life partner, using ChatGPT was a must for her. She told the UK’s SWNS Media Group as much in an interview.

“My daughter really pushes all my buttons sometimes and I lashed out at her,” Lilian shared with the outlet. “I took a moment to reflect and asked ChatGPT, ‘Why is it so triggering for me?’ It helps me deal with my own emotions. It’s a place you can vent.”
