Spring is in the air, and a lot of us are ready to break out of our homes after a cold and boring winter. Some people can't wait do to all the things outside that they've been stuck doing inside since last fall. You know, like eating lunch, talking on the phone while taking a walk, reading a book, or spending time with a significant other enjoying the sunshine. All that sounds lovely until somebody comes along to ruin it.
A couple in New York City recently thought it would be a fantastic idea to spend a little time outdoors at Battery Park, but their public display of affection was a bit much for some people.
TikToker @girlsorwomen caught the NYC couple doing the horizontal mambo under a blanket in the middle of the day, in the middle of the park, and in the middle of everyone else's fun — including a number of children playing in the park. The original video has 53 million views, and the whole world has questions.

There were so many people around.
The video pans the park, and when we tell you there are dozens of people, that's likely a gross underestimate. The weather looked gorgeous, and people wanted to be outside. Again, it's spring, and we've had enough of looking at the indoors, so we are all clamoring for green space.
The couple in question is fully covered in a blanket, but it's not hard to tell what they are doing. Plenty of people around them noticed, too, and the video caught their reactions.
They seemed to be having a good time.
From the look of it, whatever was happening under that blanket was rambunctious, to say the least, and probably a lot of fun. But there are many other things they could have been doing in the park that weren't so risqué.
There were people picnicking, feeding the birds, and even kids on scooters, but their romp was by far the main attraction.
These folks are a viral sensation.
The video has millions of views and 7 million likes. People wondered what happened at the end. It's not like they could hide there forever, right? They had to come out at some point.
Someone asked, "I need to know did they just casually come out when they were done? "
Here's a good point: "Wait so after their done do they just lift the blanket carry on living like nothing happened ignoring the fact that everyone was watching ."
And this persona had a great question: "What was the blanket supposed to do is the real question."
Some people would have put an end to the party.
Sure, what they were doing was private, but in a very public space, and a lot of people didn't like it. After all, it's not usually socially acceptable to show that level of PDA, especially around children.
One person wrote, "I'd hate to be a Karen but I'd call the cops. In the middle of the park around other people and kids? Just no. It's not that hard to be a decent human being."
Another agreed, writing, "What do you all mean 'cops don't care' if people r doing that in Battery Park in public that's illegal and cops do care then ."

But did anyone do anything?
It's not clear what happened. There are a ton of duets and stiches of the original video on TikTok and people gave their opinions. TikToker @reyahthelastdragon, had an interesting take.
She thinks no one did anything because of the so-called "bystander effect." Everyone was waiting for someone else to act, and no one did, but lots of people watched and recorded. She's probably not wrong.
Someone commented on her post, "And no Karen was in sight ?"
Reyah replied, "Right when you need one most ."
