3-Year-Old Who Got Lost in Corn Maze While Mom Was Recording Video Is Rescued by K-9 in Just 3 Minutes

Now that it’s officially fall, many of us are out enjoying our favorite fall activities, like apple picking or going to a corn maze. As fun as those mazes are, they do also come with a certain amount of danger. It’s easy to get lost in a corn maze, and that’s even more true for little ones. You may think your child is right next to you, but in the blink of an eye, they run off and you’ve lost them.

A police rescue dog in Michigan was hailed a hero after he quickly sprang into action to find a little boy who was separated from his family in the corn maze. The family is so grateful he found the boy as quickly as he did.

The dog got straight to work.

A K-9 with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department in Michigan saved the day after quickly finding a 3-year-old boy who had gone missing while in a corn maze with his family. MCSO Deputy Jack Hall told local news station WXYZ that his partner, K-9 Bane, found the little boy more than a quarter-mile away in about three minutes.

K-9 Bane had a little help.

“It was amazing,” Hall said. “That is the fastest he has ever gone.”

One of the reasons K-9 Bane was able to act so quickly was because he had a “starting article” that had the little boy’s scent on it.

“The family had a swimsuit that was worn a couple of hours prior, so he sniffed it and we were off to the race,” Hall explained.

Everyone is grateful that the little boy is safe.

The family chose to remain anonymous, but they are extremely thankful for the dog’s quick action. One person who witnessed the whole ordeal praised his work.

“They were in the corn maze and she said she had looked away for a minute filming and when she turned back, he was gone that quick,” Valerie Mitchell Erie Orchards manager said, expressing her happiness that the boy was found safe.

“That dog was so happy when he came out. He knew he did what he was supposed to. He was happy as could be,” she said. “And I did ask them how, when that dog went in there, knew not to attack because when I watch Cops on TV, those dogs attack all the time,” she added.

Hall explained that K-9 Bane is trained to handle these kinds of situations safely.

“He is a bite dog,” he shared. “Is he going to bite every single time? Probably not. It’s a very rare occurrence that he needs to bite and he only knows that when I give him a command.”

We’re just glad the little boy is safe.
