Police Used 3 Tasers To Take Down Mom Walking Backward on the Freeway Holding Crying Toddler

A child is safe after his mother allegedly walked across a Texas freeway while holding him upside down in her arms. Police arrested Carolina Bustos-Hernandez, 29, on March 24, 2025, following the terrifying incident. Sadly, her child suffered an injury during a confrontation with police. But thankfully, the Texas mom and child survived the ordeal.

According to KHOU, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that it took three Tasers to control Bustos-Hernandez, who held onto the child during the struggle with deputies. The young boy reportedly suffered injuries and cried while his mother fought with the police. Authorities took the child into the care of Child Protective Services.

It is unclear at this point where the altercation took place. According to online records, police took Bustos-Hernandez into custody, and she appeared in court on March 25. She faces a single charge of child endangerment, and a judge has set her bond at $5,000.

News of Bustos-Hernandez’s alleged actions and low bond has angered many people. They took to KHOU’s Facebook page to air their outrage.

One person wrote, “5000 bond wth.. it shld be a no bond absolutely ridiculous poor baby.”

“5000 bond is nothing so sad,” another commenter agreed.

Someone else pleaded with the court not to return the woman’s son to her custody, writing, “Dear family court judges in Houston…DO NOT under any circumstance, EVER give this woman that child back. She is a danger to the child, and will try to finish what she started . Do not listen to any sob story from her. She is a danger to her child.”

Others questioned the safety of a Taser.

Someone asked, “If you tase a person who is holding a baby… doesn’t it tase the baby also??”

Another commenter had the same question: “That’s what I was saying. Why would they [tase] the mother if the baby is steering her hands? Don’t worry; the baby’s safe.”

According to the Axon website, only the tased individual will feel the shock. “The TASER 10, however, delivers less than 1,000 volts and does not have a warning arc or drive-stun capability. It requires probes to make direct contact with the skin and cannot jump an air gap.”
