Stepdad With Violent Past Allegedly Beat Wife & Boys With Metal Bat, Leaving 6-Year-Old Brain Dead

A stepfather in Connecticut, allegedly beat his wife and her two young children with a metal baseball bat, causing one child severe brain damage. Abdulrahim Sulaiman, 38, reportedly attacked Anastasia Guzanova, 33, and her sons Jonathan, 6,  and Eli, 4, on September 23. Sulaiman is a convicted felon who allegedly used drugs before the attack.

WFSB shared a video of the stepfather in court with his hair covering his face. He faces multiple felonies, and many wonder how he could do something so violent to his wife and her innocent children.

Guzanova reportedly tried to get help.

According to court documents obtained by People, the mother called 911 for help and screamed, “Please help us! He’s hitting us with a bat!”

Moments later, Sulaiman reportedly jumped out of a window into a dumpster below. A police officer reportedly saw him covered in blood and “muttering to himself.”

The scenic was horrific.

Per court documents, the mother and her children bled profusely, and 6-year-old Jathan had exposed brain matter from a hole in his head, People reported. His brother Eli, 4, was reportedly in stable condition after medical treatment. The boys’ mother had a hole in her head near her eye. Guzanova and Eli should survive, but Jathan did not recover.

“All three victims were quickly transported to area hospitals and admitted,” said Tiadora Josef, director of public information for Bridgeport police, per WFSB. “The person of interest is in police custody. There is no ongoing threat to the community.”

Guzanova set up a GoFundMe account that has a goal of $20,000.

The family didn't want to give up hope.

According to a GoFundMe account posted by Anna Escobar, sister of the boys’ father, Jathan’s doctors put him on life support. He had no brain activity. Doctors decided to take him off life support as there was reportedly no chance of recovery.

Escobar wrote on the page, “Our family is heartbroken as we prepare to say our final goodbye to our precious, beautiful baby boy. Jathan was such a happy boy his smile could light up any room, his laughter was contagious, and his heart was full of love. In honor of the loving, joyful spirit Jathan had, my brother has made the decision to donate his organs, allowing Jathan to help others and be the hero we always knew him to be. Unfortunately we’ve been only given two more days with him.”

She thanked donors, who’ve raised nearly $9,000 of a $15,00 goal.

“The family fought hard for you, Jathan, but we have accepted God’s will and find peace in knowing that you will no longer endure the hard and traumatic life you were given in your short 6 years. You will be at peace, and your spirit will live on in our hearts forever,” Escobar wrote. “We will continue to seek justice for you and honor your memory.”
