Florida Substitute Teacher Gets DUI After Showing Up to Work ‘Drunker Than Cooter Brown’

A substitute teacher in Lake Alfred, Florida, is likely rethinking his life choices after his recent arrest. Micah Alan Dyal showed up to work drunk, and he didn’t even try to hide it. So far, we don’t know what was going through his mind when he decided that this was a smart thing to do. But then again, drinking doesn’t always lead to the smartest choices. Look, I get that sometimes being in a classroom with 30 kids will make you want to drink. There’s a big difference, however, between going to happy hour after you get off work and starting your day like it’s five o’clock somewhere. Hopefully, Dyal has learned his lesson.

A school resource officer saw the 44-year-old trying to back out of a parking space at Lake Alfred Polytech Academy around 10:30 a.m. January 27, 2026, Fox 13 reported, citing the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The resource officer alerted authorities, who showed up at the middle school.

Deputies gave Dyal a field sobriety test because he had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He also showed signs of impairment. Dyal was then arrested and charged with DUI.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Dyal agreed to a blood draw, Fox 13 reported. The blood sample will be sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for testing. Blood-alcohol level will be determined, and the lab will test to see if he took any drugs.

“This substitute teacher was drunker than Cooter Brown at school while he was supposed to be teaching our children,” Sheriff Grady Judd declared in a statement shared by WFLA. “We gave him an education when we took him to jail.”

Polk County Public Schools released a statement about Dyal’s arrest.

“We commend our school staff for noticing that something was off, and not allowing this individual to proceed to the classroom yesterday,” the release shared. “What a terrible decision and unacceptable behavior from someone working on a campus. This person will no longer have any involvement with PCPS.”
