Teen Dies After Falling From Cruise Ship Balcony While En Route to Bahamas

Cruises are times for overindulgence. All-you-can-eat buffets. Lounging on the beach until you’re sunburned. And spending too much money at local shops in various ports. It's all a lot and usually so much fun.

But one cruise recently went from tropical paradise to tragedy when a teen aboard the ship died after he fell from a balcony. Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas, based in Port Canaveral, Florida, set sail toward the Bahamas and the western Caribbean, only to have the voyage end in disaster.

Sources haven't confirmed whether the fall was accidental or not.

A passenger told TMZ that a teenager fell from the balcony deck on November 25. The fall happened during the early morning as the Allure of the Seas was making its way to the Bahamas. The boy was 16 years old.

Cruise ship staff asked fellow passengers to help with lifesaving efforts.

Sources claim that Royal Caribbean made many efforts to save the boy’s life, Fox 35 reported. A shipwide announcement was made asking passengers to donate blood at the medical tent.

Sadly, the boy later died at a hospital, not on the ship itself. Photos from other passengers showed yellow tape blocking off the interior balcony. There was also a tent blocking a portion of the ship’s deck.

The company wouldn't provide any details about the teen.

After the boy’s death, Royal Caribbean released a statement to Fox 35. "We are saddened to learn of the passing of a guest and our hearts go out to the family. Out of respect for them, we won’t provide any further comment,” the statement reads.

The company did not elaborate on the age of the passenger or the circumstances behind his injury and subsequent death.

The teen did not die on the cruise ship.

The teen was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to WPLG.

Allure of the Seas, which began operating in October, sails on three- and four-night cruises with stops in Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay, the company’s private island, according to Florida Today. The ship, which set sail on November 24, returned to Florida on November 27. Later that same day, the ship departed from Port Canaveral on another four-night expedition.
