Teen Refuses To Let Elderly Customer Walk Away Without Food & Helps Pay for His Groceries

Teo Jordan took a job bagging groceries a few weeks ago at Kroger in Covington, Kentucky, because he wanted to save up for a car. But weeks after he started his new job, the 18-year-old high school senior has found a way to give back. Jordan didn’t hesitate for a minute after an elderly customer came up a little short for his groceries, and took it upon himself to make sure the customer wouldn’t walk away without food in his cart.

Jordan was bagging groceries when he heard a cashier tell the customer that he didn’t have enough money to cover his food.

“I saw that he didn’t have the money for all the groceries that he wanted,” he told WTHR. “I wanted to help the guy.”

So the teen reached into his own pocket to make up the difference.

“The cashier told him he would have to put some of the things back, so I just thought in my head I would give him this $35 so he could have all the food that he wants,” he continued.

To Jordan, it was the only move that made sense.

“Just treat people the way you want to be treated (and) always help out if someone needs it,” he told the news station.

His mom, Stephanie Burton, said she was proud her son chose to make a difference in someone else’s life.

“I am proud of Teo,” she shared. “I’m overwhelmed with joy. You try to instill in your kids right and wrong but you don’t know if they comprehend, so yes I’m very proud.”

“He gave him an extra couple of meals that he probably didn’t have,” she said.

It’s a lesson that we all could probably take to heart.

“We just need to be human again,” Burton added.
