A toddler in England has died in a tragic accident while watching his favorite TV show. Carter Walsh was just 2 years old when he died on September 18, 2024. He was dancing along to CoComelon when the fireplace that held up the family’s TV collapsed on top of him.
Carter received a traumatic head injury that proved fatal. What started as a fun family day ended in heartbreaking tragedy.
According to the Mirror, an investigation determined his death was an accident, and now his family is trying to live life without him.

The marble fireplace weighed a significant amount.
The Mirror reported that the marble fireplace and flat-screen TV weighed approximately 60 pounds. It reportedly fell directly on top of Carter while he was watching TV, and the family member watching him was not able to stop it. Sadly, the weight was too much and killed the toddler.
An expert told the inquest, “He did not suffer. He did not know what was going on. It was an instantaneous event.”
Carter had a significant head injury.
The inquest said workers at the home working on the central heating heard the commotion, and tried to save Carter. They removed the fireplace and TV from on top of him, the Mirror reported.
Medical staff at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan pronounced the boy dead a short time later. A pathologist, Dr. Jamie Robinson, said Carter died from a head injury but did not suffer as he was unconscious.
Carter's grandparents planned to safeguard the fireplace and TV.
According to the Mirror, Carter’s grandmother, Helen Mayhew, told the inquest she and her husband went to her daughter’s home in Wigan the day before Carter died to determine what kind of tools they would need to properly secure the fireplace and TV to the wall. The fireplace was brought into the home when the family moved in.

His mother's heart broke.
Walsh shared a tearful message with the Mirror about her son. “He was my best friend. He was well-loved, not just by his family but by anybody that met him. He broke the hearts of everybody he met … He was the apple of our eyes,” she said.
Walsh’s aunt, Karen Glynn, raised more than £2,400 pounds, or $3,000 USD, for Carter with a GoFundMe campaign. She wrote on the fundraising page, “Hi my name is Karen I am doing a go fund page on behalf of my niece Samantha who has tragically loss her 2 year old son Carter to a fatal accident”
